Obituary

Eddie Jewel Young, who lived an amazing 91 years, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his children.

Mr. Young was born on March 24, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Superintendent James M. Young and Mother Gertrude Young. Following his family’s relocation to Yakima, Washington, he attended Adams Elementary School, Washington Middle School, and Yakima High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 26, 1954, in Seattle, Washington, where he served in the 12th Marine Corps Reserve & Recruitment District. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

In Seattle in 1960, Mr. Young met and married his wife, Linda Hearth. Their union brought forth four children: Tia Young, Eddie Young Jr., Julie Young, and Stevie Young.

Mr. Young possessed a remarkable talent for humor, delighting others with his comical voices and characters, particularly “Donald Duck.” He was also a gifted singer, serving as the lead vocalist in several musical groups, including Shades of Jade, Salt & Pepper Affair, and Genghis. Moreover, he had a profound impact on audiences with his trombone performances. Known for his gardening skills, he was recognized as a master gardener, growing exceptional vegetables and beautiful roses.

In addition to his artistic talents, Mr. Young was highly skilled in welding and was acknowledged as one of Seattle’s finest body fender professionals.

Mr. Young was a dedicated member of Light House Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of his father, the late Superintendent James M. Young.

He is survived by his loving children: Tia Young, Eddie Young Jr., Julie Young, and Stevie Young; grandchildren: Marlett, Marvell, Luciano, Eduardo, Mateo, and Ziven; siblings: Dr. James A. Young, Harold L. Young, Venetia C. Wilson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eddie Young’s legacy of hard work, joy of laughter, and love for family and music will be cherished forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
