Obituary
Edith passed away quietly at home on September 3, 2010. She was born on February 16, 1923 on the family homestead near Ludlow in Harding County, South Dakota, to Ellen and Leonard Young. She grew up in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with her siblings Mable, Lillian, Ruth, Edwin and Ethel. She graduated from Aberdeen’s Central High School in 1941.
She was predeceased by her first husband Virgil Sanders and her second husband Melvin Schley; also by her parents, her sisters Mable and Lillian and her brother Edwin.
Edith and Melvin worked a farm near Stratford, South Dakota for seven years until circumstances forced them to leave the farm and make a new life on the West Coast. They moved first to Vancouver Washington in 1957 and then a year later to Seattle. Edith decided to go into nursing and graduated from Edison Technical School as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked first at Swedish Hospital and then at Riverton Hospital until she retired in 1987. She lived in Tukwila for 14 years after Melvin’s death in 1984.
She is survived by her loving husband of twelve years, Michael Fraher, and by her sisters Ruth and Ethel, her daughter Vergia Sanders Seabrook David, her son Charles Schley, ten grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was devoted to her family and visited her sisters and brother as often as possible. She hosted Christmas Eve for the grandchildren for many years at the house in Tukwila. She met and married Michael Fraher in 1998 and moved to Normandy Park. They enjoyed traveling and retirement living.
Visitation will be at Washington Memorial Park at 16445 International Blvd, SeaTac, WA on Friday, September 17 from 10 am to 2 pm. A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 22975 – 24th Ave S, Des Moines, WA on Saturday, September 18 at 11 am with a reception following at the church.
