Obituary
Edmund William Rosendin of Federal Way, WA passed away peacefully during his 88th trip around the sun on March 4th, 2012, finally reunited with his beloved son, Eddie, who passed away at the age of 7 in 1961. Born May 15, 1924, Ed is survived by his devoted wife of almost 66 years, Esther, his daughter Rebecca (Tom) McPharlin, son William (Nadine) Rosendin, and grandsons Joshua McPharlin, Jacob (Zandrea Harlin) McPharlin, and Nicholas Rosendin, all of Washington State. He is also survived by his loving cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Son of the late Crisostomo Leal Rosendin of Nopala, Hidalgo, México and Rebeca Loya Rosendin of Acensión, Chihuahua, México. Ed was the eldest of brothers Alfred, Henry, Hector (d: 2002), and Ralph, and sister, Mary Louise Solano (d: 2009), all of California. Ed was born and raised in San José, California. He attended College Park Grammar School, Herbert Hoover Jr. High, and San José Technical High School before serving in the United States Navy on the USS Giansar and USS Kenneth Whiting from 1942 – 1946. A 1954 graduate of San José State College with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Ed worked for Douglas Aircraft in El Segundo, CA designing electrical systems of Navy aircraft in the late 50’s. While working for Douglas, Ed consulted with Pacific Iron and Steel Corporation of Los Angeles to design the electrical system of the original three section telescoping “Jetway” passenger loading ramp that we all use to this day. Ed was a pioneer in the electric propulsion area and his innovative ideas were used in designing electrical systems for the Titan, Apollo, NERVA and Minuteman programs at Aerojet General Corporation in the 60’s. In 1971, Ed was transferred to Washington State to lead the electrical design team of the Surface Effect Ships division. In 1977, at the age of 53, he retired from Aerojet and started Ed Rosendin Electric, in Federal Way, WA. His company specialized in industrial electrical contracting. Ed retired in 2004 at the age of 80. Ed was loving, generous and confirmed in his convictions; he mentored many during his lifetime, and will be missed very much. Ed had his private pilot’s license, enjoyed golfing and fishing and was an amateur ham radio operator, receiving his “Amateur Extra License” proficiency rating in 2009. One of his greatest passions was bird watching in his backyard with his wife, Esther. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to his caretakers Florin, Lily and Valeria Potra and Mariana Simulescu of Kentridge Elderly Living in Kent, WA for their everlasting compassion. Private burial at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the “Dr. Julien Soule Guild” funding uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital, c/o P.O. Dearest Rosendin Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. You’re all in our heats, thoughts and prayers.
If it weren’t for Ed and Ester, Dan and I wouldn’t be where we are today. Ed provided Dan with his very first job and took him under his wings. We truly are very greatful and thankful for that.
