Edna R. West
March 20, 1934 - October 26, 2020
Obituary
Edna Rie West was born on March 20, 1934 in Columbus, Mississippi to the late Jessie and Marie Moore. She was the only child. She moved to Seattle, WA in 1955 with her cousins in search of better opportunities. She worked at Troy Laundry, Boeing and as an assistant at John Muir Elementary School before retiring as a homemaker to take care of her children and grandchildren. While working at Boeing, she met the love of her life, Irving West Sr. They were married on April 17, 1960. To this union of 60 years, six children were born.
Edna loved the Lord and prayed for her family daily. Her favorite gospel songs included “Hold My Mule” and “The Rough Side of the Mountain.” Edna enjoyed bowling and playing bridge with her husband. They bowled in a league for many years and played in bridge tournaments, winning many trophies.
Her love touched so many through her love for flowers, puzzles, cooking, and her giftedness as a gardener. She loved her family and friends. She would feed everyone in the neighborhood, making sure no one went hungry and known for her delicious “fried chicken” and “collard greens”. Often referred to as the “life of the party”, she loved to entertain for family and close friends, making sure everyone was happy and having a good time.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and Marie Moore.
She departed this life for her home in Heaven on Monday, October 26, 2020. Edna leaves to cherish her life and legacy: her husband, Irving West Sr.; six children: Clyde Wells Jr. (Katherine); Janice M. Bentley (Charles); Letitia A. West; Irving West Jr.; Victoria West; Geylar S. Locke (Phillip) all of Seattle, WA. Thirteen grandchildren; fourteen Great-grandchildren; and two Great-Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was truly loved and will be truly missed.
Visitation will take place on Monday November 9th, 2020 from 2-5 P.M.
A zoom link will be provided for visitation and for the private funeral services the following day.

As I sit in my car and listen to these oldies but goodies I have been raised to understand the meaning behind the pain and joy of lyrics in these songs, I’m often called a old man beyond my years and I embrace the wisdom I was so quick to push back against not knowing 1 day I would use those same lessons in my own life and for that grandmother/ mom I will always miss you and I truly say this with all my heart….. I love you granny.
