We were so blessed to have such a caring, compassionate neighbor as Ned. Ned did so much for our Cattail Community & will be missed by so many .R.I.P. Ned, Prayers to all the family.
So many wonderful memories of Ned over the years. All the good times as work-study co-workers at the University of Tennessee’s Biology Business Office in our much younger days. More college adventures sharing an apartment in ‘The Fort’. Always teasing me about the ‘power cubes’ at Conoco and Dupont. And forever watching and cheering our beloved Tennessee Volunteer football team through adulthood. I will never in my life meet another soul so caring and unselfish as you. You were the definition of character and strength. Your life influenced not only me but also my two sons who are now growing to manhood. Your friendship towards them will always be treasured. You will be sorely missed by a world who needs more like you.
Ned brought out the best in every person he met. His love for my husband and whole family truly made me feel he was our brother. Each of our children adored him. They are all adults now but all still carried deeply about “Uncle Ned”. I am a better person for having him in our life and we hated when he moved away. His health had given him the gift of compassion and he helped many others get through their tribulations with genuine concern , kindness and a deep understanding. Love to his family and friends. We will not meet another such as him.
Ned was a good friend and Rotarian-he will be missed by all of us in Cambridge
Ned was the best of the best. A friend for 35 years .I wil not forget all the great time and our annual calls ever May in the pass years.
Fair winds and following seas to my Cambridge, Md Rotary Club brother. RC Jones
To a great man who lived the Rotary motto everyday. We will miss you. May you rest in peace.
To us, Ned had become much more than simply a friend. To me, Ned was one of the bravest men I ever knew…in or out of uniform.
To Helen, he was one of the kindest and gentlest men she had ever met.
We miss him and we’ll always remember him.
Ned was one of a kind – gentle yet firmly committed to a life of faithful devotion to Jesus Christ. He was cheerful, supportive, interested in everyone he knew, good with details about one’s family/friends, etc. Generous and kind, he was a great supporter of many outreach efforts in Cambridge. A wonderful Bible scholar, Ned used to always come prepared to our Bible Exploration sessions at Christ Church there in Cambrdige. A founding member of the MPBS Thursday Morning Group, Ned will be missed by a lot of people he touched. May his soul rest in peace.
Ned, your leadership will be missed. It was an honor to have served with you.
To Ned’s family:
Nancy and I were so fond of Ned and all of his efforts on behalf of Deep Harbour. He was a great guy and fine human being. We will miss him a great deal.
Our thoughts are with his family.
Ned was our next door neighbor in Cambridge and a man that gave all of us good cheer whenever we saw him. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say about the people in our condo building.
We are sure Ned is now talking with the Lord to see if he can assist in helping others that enter into heaven.
He will be missed.
I decided to look back on comments made about our dear friend Ned! I am not amazed by the out pouring of love for Ned. Many have said it all when it comes to Ned. Caring witty loving always smiling, The words associated with Ned can’t say enough about the man himself!!!
Ned I know you are sitting on the right hand of God asking what you can do to help!!!
We will miss our friend and neighbor and as others said an asset to our Cattail Community!!!
I met Ned a couple of years ago at his cousins daughter’s wedding. After talking for only a few minutes it was as if we had been friends forever. How wonderful it must have been to have him as a friend for many years and as part of you family.
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Wake for Ned Wright
The Cambridge Rotary Club will honor the memory of our fallen Rotary brother Edwin “Ned” C. Wright by hosting a Wake to celebrate his life, Wednesday November 21, 2012, 5:00 PM at the Cambridge Yacht Club.
Our club is grieving his loss and with no local service and a private burial in Portsmouth Va. a lot of us have expressed a need to come together and honor Ned’s life and all that he meant to our Club and our Community.
It has been many years since I’ve seen Ned, but I shall always remember him as a truly gentle, caring person. I worked with Ned at Conoco and again worked with him on joint projects once he went to DuPont. He was my colleague, but more importantly, my friend. The world should have more people like Ned in it. He will be missed.
Hi Carol, I am Bobbie Sue Swann. I was Ned’s house keeper. I am very sorry to hear about his passing. He was very nice man. And I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Bobbie Sue Swann
Ned and I worked together at Conoco for a number of years and developed a good friendship. In fact, he purchased the house next to ours in Bellaire, TX. Ned was very bright and had one of the best memories of anyone I’ve ever met. No matter what job he had he worked tirelessly to be the best. We will definitely miss him as will all those whose life he touched.
Ned & I worked together for many years at DuPont. We became good friends over the years and he will be missed. My sincere condolence to his family.
Ned was a classmate in the Portsmouth schools. A truly easy going and nice person. My condolences to his friends and family.
Ned was a blessing to work with. For many years he and I negotiated rates and service – me with the railroad and him representing the little french paint company – his words! Ned was a true professional. He will be missed.

Like many others, we will miss seeing Ned’s smiling face. We knew him as a man clearly blessed with a gentle, loving soul and a stalwart spirit that refused to succumb to challenges and adversity. His wit, humor, and persistent efforts to help others will never be forgotten. Cambridge and the Deep Harbour Community have clearly lost a very valuable friend.

Ned and I were friends in High School at Woodrow Wilson in Portsmouth. Ned played clarinet in the band and was Drum Major while I played Bassoon and Trombone in the marching band. He was very nice when I knew him as it seems he was in his adult life. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
My beloved brother, Ned .. I will miss you forever..
Love Always, sis
“If you live in this world with kindness, if you don’t add to other people’s burdens, but if you try to serve love, when the time comes for you to make the journey, you will receive a serenity, peace and a welcoming freedom that will enable you to go to the other world with great elegance, grace and acceptance.”
(no doubt about it…)
I HAVEN’T SEEN NED SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. MORE’S THE PITY FOR ME, BECAUSE READING THESE WONDERFUL AFFIRMATIONS OF THIS FINE MAN MAKES ME REALIZE ALL THE MORE WHAT A FRIEND I HAD IN SCHOOL. HE WAS ALWAYS SO VERY KIND TO ME, SO SWEET, SUCH A GENTLEMAN, AND ALWAYS APPRECIATED. MY HEART HURTS EACH TIME WE LOSE ANOTHER SCHOOL MATE, BUT IT’S SO OBVIOUS THAT HE ENJOYED A GOOD LIFE, WEALTHY WITH FRIENDS, AND FULFILLED IN HIS WORK. REST IN PEACE, DEAR NED.
Sincere sympathy for the lost of your dear brother and friend. I worked with Ned at DuPont. He was always fun to be around, even when he was trying to teach me a lesson. I will miss his smiles and his stories.
Ned was probably the brightest person I have ever known. He truly loved life and his chosen profession, transportation. He had a way of encouraging people to perform at higher levels, but he did it in a very transparent way. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and a ready smile. I ran into Maudry two years ago at Target, she was a transportation clerk who worked with us at Conoco some twenty years ago, she asked about Ned and mentioned that “he was such a nice man” That pretty much sums it up, he was a very nice man, and he is missed!! Oh yes GO VOLS. Thanks for being my friend.

My hero…
It’s not “good-bye,” Ned –it’s just “see you later.”
I just read the news about Ned’s passing from the Elon magazine. I was his roommate my sophomore year at Elon. What a wonderful person! I didn’t have a car and I remember him letting me borrow his car so I could go to church on Sundays. I felt blessed to have him as my roommate and friend. I’m just sorry now we didn’t keep in touch over the years, but I know I’m a better person for having known him.
It was an honor and blessing to have worked with Ned while he was at DuPont. He had a caring spirit, ethics, intensity and the ability to bring the best out of people. He will be missed by all who had the privledge of knowing him.

Ned and I were childhood friends beginning in Miss Porter’s First Grade, Park View Elementary School, Portsmouth, Virginia. We lost touch when we went to different colleges.
The Wright family (Ned’s father died when we were in the sixth grade of wonderful Miss Brooks) including his extremely intelligent father, his warm and “versatile” mother, and his lithe and effervescent older sister were, and represent – in my experience – THE perfect family. It is not surprising to me that so many find that Ned represents near perfection in human form and human memory.
I was so sad to learn about Ned’s death. I was looking up old friends in Norfolk and found this obituary.
I had the privilege of helping Ned during his illness in Norfolk in the late 70″s. I have never met anyone with such amazing courage in addition to the abundance of love and compassion that he had for others. I wish we had kept in touch – I would loved to have known the man he became. Judging by the many messages here he was remarkable.
Shocking to learn of Ned’s death….I am heartbroken. I knew Ned more than 30 years ago when we both worked at Conoco corporate headquarters in Stamford, CT. I adored him and still think of him from time to time. He was a gentle soul.
