Eithne Rose Kerins
February 26, 1942 - April 21, 2017

Obituary
Eithne Rose Kerins, 75, died on Friday April 21st while living in Seattle near her daughter, Aisling Kerins. Eithne was born on February 26th, 1942 in Ireland, where she lived until immigrating to America in 1964.
Eithne lived in New York City, where she worked for Air India and met her late husband Richard “Dick” Kerins. Their first date was dancing under the stars at Rockefeller Center, on a double date with Dick’s brother Ed Kerins and Ed’s wife Peggy.
In 1975, they moved out of the city and to Westbury, Long Island, where they raised their daughter, Aisling Kerins and lived for over 20 years. Eithne worked at Lufthansa during most of that time and had many cherished memories and friends from her time there.
When Eithne retired from Lufthansa in 1998, she and Dick moved to Palmyra, VA where they enjoyed their garden, deck and many friends on Out of Bounds Rd. Eithne was an amazing caregiver to her husband during the illness that led to his passing, after which she soon moved to Seattle to be near Aisling, her son-in-law Ben and first grand-daughter Hannah.
Eithne was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia shortly after moving to Seattle and passed away a year after her diagnosis. Eithne is survived by her daughter Aisling Kerins, son-in-law Ben Vaught and their two daughters Hannah Rose and Tabitha Florence Vaught. She is also survived by her sister Marie Sheehan and two brothers John and Noel Maguire.
A mass in her memory will be conducted in Ireland in August – please contact the family if you’d like details. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association which is conducting research on this disease. Our deepest thanks go out to the caring staff at Skyline, where Eithne spent her last year.
Eithne,
What a beautiful Lady!! I worked at LH
As well in East Meadow and I must say consider myself a very lucky guy being surrounded by beautiful colleagues ladies I also remember Mr Bernard “the Cold War” at times and of course Eithne in her India Desk..
I remember Eithne so well. We worked together at LH and lived within a few blocks of each other. I can still hear her voice and see her smile. A lovely person inside and out. RIP dear Eithne.
I am so sorry to hear this news. Eithne was a very kind, nice lady. I worked with her at Lufthansa for many years. We sat near each other many times. She was even tempered and would say to me when things got tough, just say “This is quite trying” I still remember those words to this day. She often talked about her daughter with great affection. God bless you and your family.
Such a beautiful , sweet lady. We would talk about so much. I feel very lucky to have known her , worked with her and enjoyed just being around her. She was so proud of her daughter, and so devoted to her husband and family. Such a great loss. My prayers and “happy” thoughts are with her family. I can only smile when I think and remember her.
May the Good Lord please rest Eithne’s soul. I had the pleasure of working with Eithne at Lufthansa. I always enjoyed speaking with her…she was always so pleasant, kind and soft-spoken. I’m sorry for your family’s loss
“You can be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud.”.. – Maya Angelou
I worked with Eithne at Lufthansa…..always a smile and
full of grace. A real lady. So sorry to hear of her passing.
She was pure sunshine and rainbows. RIP dear Eithne.XO
Sweet Eithne, so grateful to have known her and worked with her. A bit of a paradox as she was the sweetest person on the planet but she worked in inventory control: cleaning up those flights with fairness and firmness. And humor! I will continue to celebrate her with my fond memories. Sending your family love and light.
Eithne was a lovely lady with a winning smile and a beautiful soul. It was my good fortune to have worked with her at Lufthansa, and I will always remember her fondly. My condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.
May you rest in peace with your beloved husband. You both were and will always be dear to my heart.
” Her laughter was as a sprinkle of fairy dust leaving a trail of sparkles in the air as she passed by”. After ” my Boy”, as she called Dick, passed away most of that sparkle left her eyes until she saw her Hannah Rose, the first born of her first born. This is a bond of love that is forever biding and even death cannot break that bond. People come into your life and leave just as they arrived. And there are souls that lite into the mist of your life and leave a footprint on your heart. Such a soul was my friend, Eithene Rose and I know when there is fairy dust is the air, Eithene is stirring it up.
EIthne was one of my close confidants at LH and was so lucky to work with her and sitting across from her . CAn still hear her laughter and remember the day she told me that she was retiring from LH …. couldn’t imagine not seeing her smiling face every day ! ANd will miss our yearly phone conversations catching up ! Will really miss her !
Having worked with Eithne for many years, I know that her grace, kindness and joy of life will be missed by so many. When I think back and remember Eithne, I can only smile and consider myself fortunate to have to have known her. My deepest condolences to her family.
I will so much miss the good times I shared with my dear friend. Her visits here were so special to us. So many laughs and so much fun in each others company. Her lovely smile and infectious laugh I will never forget. The world is at a great loss without her.
My first memory of Eithne took place when I was a little girl of 8 or 9. I remember thinking how stylish and beautiful she was. Additionally, she had that lyrical Irish accent. There was a genteel quality saddled inside a very strong woman. One final memory was when my family went on vacation to the Outer Banks. We took my Dad, Dick’s brother, on that trip. We were fortunate to have My Uncle Dick and Aunt Eithne come for an overnight which was filled with joy and laughter. a night I’ll always remember.
I had the pleasure of working with Eithne at Lufthansa for many years. She was one of the sweetest, kindest and classiest ladies I knew. Her smile was always bright even as she spoke with the toughest Indian travel agents. She is now with her husband enjoying each other’s company once more. Rest in the arms of Our Loving Lord. You were a joy to know.
What a pleasure it was working at Lufthansa with Eithne, a beautiful LADY inside and out! RIP
I’m so sorry to hear about Eithne’s passing.
Although I haven’t seen her in many years, I still remember her as a kind, warm, big-hearted person, and a great sense of humor. I can still hear her sweet Irish accent and her practical words of wisdom. I’m so glad I knew her.
RIP, sweet Eithne. The world is a bit sadder without you. xoxo
Eithne Rose was a very special friend for many years.
It was a blessing that she could spend her last couple of years close to Aisling, Ben and Hannah.
E.R. (my pet name for her) will be sorely missed, but I’m sure she has been reunited with Dick in heaven and is smiling down at us all.
Rest in peace darling Eithne Rose, Love, Lizzie
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Aisling. Your MOM was a wonderful person and we all loved her. We had wonderful times when we all lived on Out Of Bounds. God Bless. You and your family.
It was a pleasure and honor to have worked with Eithne
at Lufthansa. She had such a winning smile and sunny disposition. We will miss her.
Eithne was a wonderful colleague and I missed her after she left Lufthansa. Even visited her in VA contemplating to move there also. Missing our yearly birthday calls.
She is dearly missed and remembered.
Wally
I was fortunate to work with Eithne for many years at Lufthansa . We started together and enjoyed our daily cup of tea break. Eithne was a beautiful lady with a wonderful sense of humor, who will be missed by many. My deepest condolences to her family.
I met Eithne in 1971 when I Joined Air India.
She was a great colleague and friend. Always
even tempered and patient with some of our more
difficult passengers.
Although we did not meet anymore after she and Dick
moved to VA we kept in touch with Christmas and
birthday cards and by telephone.
I will miss her and my thoughts and prayers go out to
Aisling and family.
We were neighbors of Eithne and Dick on Out of Bounds Rd here in VA. I’ve missed her ever since she moved to Seattle. She was one of the nicest and classiest ladies I’ve ever known. When she spoke it was like listening to a sweet song. Our lavender is just starting to bloom which is so fitting. Eithne loved our lavendar and said it reminded her of home when she would drive by and they were in bloom.
We miss her. She was a very special lady.
I was so sorry to hear of Aithne’s passing. I have such fond memories of her and Dick. I remember one weekend when I was maybe 7 or 8, they invited me to spend the weekend at their apartment in the city. We had so much fun, with the highlight being a trip to Belmont Raceway!
I will always remember her smile and laugh. I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with all those that loved and cherished her.
I don’t remember my life without Ethne & Dick in it. I was their official book shelf duster at the young age of five, never realizing it was just to keep me busy so the adults could talk. They always made me feel so important. I remember canoeing on the Delaware, eating spam while camping, and hours of sing-alongs on our long road trips. 15 years into adulthood, they came into my life on a daily basis again when I moved to Virginia with two small children. My children had the honor of in-state grandparents and Eithne & Dick were the best ever. She would take the kids on long adventurous walks, where they would talk to frogs, run past haunted houses, and marvel at the house where the princess lived. When I watched her with my children I was able to see how much love and confidence she gave to them and I know how lucky Aisling was to have her as a mom. Eithne was more than my mom’s friend, she was family. I will miss her cups of tea, sage advice, and sense of humor. Her support meant everything when I found myself in a new town again without family. I remember Eithne and my mom in their wild patterned 70s blouses with huge collars and frosted lipstick. Two career women at a time when most moms stayed home. They were amazing role models, they taught us that women can be anything they want to be and forged a better path for their daughters. Life will always be a little duller without her around. She gave me the greatest advice ever and told me to slow down and really enjoy my children. She was so proud of Aisling and so happy that Aisling had grown to be this amazing woman. She would always tell me, “don’t sweat the small stuff” and “dull women have clean houses.” She was right. We miss her and we were so lucky to love her and be loved by her.
What a joy to have had Eithne as a friend! She was a sweet and beautiful and caring person with a sparkling personality and a great sense of humor. We all missed her when she moved from the lake, and it is sad to know that she is gone from this life.My deepest sympathies go out to you, Aisling, and to all of your family. You are very much in my thoughts and prayers.
It was deeply saddening to hear the news of Eithne.
I will always remember her as our brave aunt who headed to the USA in her 20’s and made a wonderful life for herself there, whilst never forgetting her Irish family and roots.
I have fond memories of her taking great care of me visiting America in my teens. She also sent a very cool personalised Christmas book to me when I was young, which was very exotic back in Ireland in the 80’s!
I’m sorry she succumbed to this disease but am glad she was closeby to you Aisling and Ben during this time.
How lovely that she got to meet her two granddaughters.
My thoughts are with you at this time as you grieve for Eithne but send love to you and your beautiful family.
Love from Lisa and family xxxx
We first met Eithne in 1991 but it seems like we’ve known her all of our lives. Eithne loved people and people loved her straight back.
There were many happy hours out on the back porch talking, laughing and enjoying each others company.
The road trips we did would always start with Eithne singing the first line of “on the road again”. We never found out if she knew the rest of the words.
She always had a lovely sense of fun and it was a pleasure and a privilege to have known her.
We miss her.
