Obituary
Born Eleanor Mae Carper on July 28, 1926, in Denver Colorado, she was fondly called many other names. In her early years it was Ellie, in her later years ‘Nora’ by her friends, but always mom, gramma, or gramma great. She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph Edwin and Maude Hazel Carper; brother Ralph Franklin Carper; the love of her life, Augustine ‘Pete’ DiPietro; beloved nephew Ralph ‘Brent’ Carper.
Growing up, she moved many times from Salt Lake City, Reno, and San Francisco, where she graduated from Balboa High School. Mom met Dad in Reno, where she was painting camouflage on the under belly of aircraft. Daddy, PFC Army Air Force, was smitten by her in the coveralls. They were married on July 5, 1948, making their first home in a small apartment in San Francisco. Daddy bought the first house mom ever lived in using his GI Bill. Mom was a homemaker after becoming a mother to her firstborn Stephen Michael on May 17, 1951, and Debra Ann on October 5, 1953. She was active with Cub Scouts and Brownies, PTA, and American Lutheran Church Women President at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in South San Francisco.
After Moving to the Pacific NW in 1975, she became an avid bird watcher and adopted a whale. Mom was quite adventurous and had traveled far and wide to be with family and friends. She made her last journey to meet up with daddy on March 11, 2017, where they will residce together forever in the loving arms of Jesus Christ their Savior and Redeemer.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Michael, Debra Ann; grandchildren, Janel Noel Watt of Hawaii, Joel DiPietro, Nathan and Mathew DiPietro of Seattle, WA; Godsons Michelangelo Genzale of Mirabella Italy, and Todd Carper of Ilwaco, WA; grat grandchildren Benjamin Frederickson, Alana Frederickson, Caleb Watt, and Augustine D. DiPietro,as well as many nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, where she will be intered with the love of her life.
She was Auntie to our family – loved and honored by all of us and we will so miss her.
Rest in peace Auntie and give Pete and Brent a huge hug from all of us.

I do remember your family name as I grew up and am still attending Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, now Unity Lutheran Church. My last name is Gerdes. My family has attended this church since the 1960. My father is Ed Gerdes my mother now gone Lorraine. I am sorry for your loss as I know when I lost my mother in 2010 it was very hard. My best to you and your family. I hope you will visit us again
Being a member of Our Redeemer’s since 1958 I remember the family well. The five of us attended with the 3 kids going to Sunday School, Mom (Jane) sang in the choir and she said she would quit if Dad (Walter) joined. My brother Eric passed away in 2007 and my sister Emily lives in Maple Valley, Washington.
I will always treasure our last conversations. A legacy of truth will do just fine. Thank you.
