Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Hallen (Dormer) “Betsy” to family and friends, was born January 8, 1930 in Bryn Mawr, PA. She was the only child of James Gervase and Anna Beth Dormer (Fickes). Her father died unexpectedly when she was 4, leaving she and her mother to struggle for some years.  At the age of 11, she was enrolled in the Ellis School for Girls, a school devoted to girls who had lost their fathers. It was at Ellis that she met lifelong friends Ruby, Pearl, and Evey. She and her mother also enjoyed cruising on Delaware and Chesapeake Bays with her stepfather “Pete”. While at the “boat” she met Nancy, another lifelong friend. She graduated in 1948 and worked for RCA for a number of years. She met and married Erik Fitzedward Hallen in 1952. Together they had 5 children; Erik Jr. (Suzy), Robbin Lee, Laura Eleze (Ross), Wendy Nan (Emilio), and James Frederick (Donna). After her husband’s death in 1994, Betsy purchased her own home in Burien. She remained close to long time family friends John and Jean. Together they attended church at University Presbyterian. Betsy embraced her new independence continuing to travel;  visiting family, friends, including a winter trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, and attending Ellis School reunions.  In 2017, she moved to Merrill Gardens where she continued to be an active member of the community making new friends, Loraine, Betty and Sandra, and many others wherever she went.  Betsy remained active and was sharp as a tack to the very end when a stroke stole her from us on November 5, 2021. She is preceded in death by daughter Robbin Lee and husband Erik.  Betsy is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 11 AM and will be conducted at Washington Memorial Cemetery, 16445 International Boulevard, SeaTac, WA. Arrangements by Bonney-Watson Funeral Home
