Passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 11, 2009 in Seattle. Ella is survived and will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 54 years, Lloyd, loving son Bill, daughter-in-law Jennifer and grandchildren Michaela & Marcus, who were the light of her life. She was born Ella Yates in Coleman, Alberta on September 23, 1920 to James and Mary Yates, growing up in the mountainous coal country of Crowsnest Pass where her father worked in the mines. She was educated in nursing at McGill University in Montreal, later working in the Royal Jubilee hospital in Victoria, BC, where she met her future husband Lloyd. They were wed on April 19, 1955 in Seattle, where Lloyd practiced as a physician. During her many years living in Broadview Ella enjoyed school volunteer work, sailing the waters of Puget Sound and British Columbia with her family, and several trips to destinations overseas, becoming a proud US citizen along the way. No service by request. Flowers gratefully declined, donations if desired may be made in her memory to Northwest Hospital or the American Lung Association.
