Elonna Carol Rice, 89, of Seattle, WA, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was born on July 28, 1935 to parents Guy Raymond and Viola Rebecca “Rose” Keithley in Carnation, WA.
Elonna was a lover of hummingbirds. She had several feeders placed where she could sit and watch them as she opened mail or watched TV.
Word puzzles, sappy romance novels and sports occupied her some of her time. When talking to her on the phone, I could almost always hear a crowd cheering in the background from whatever game she was watching.
Gardening and cross-stitching were hobbies she enjoyed before arthritis took them from her.
Relatives and friends looked forward to the colorful sticker-covered envelopes that came faithfully at every holiday or day of remembrance. Inside were long letters in her beautiful script. Her penmanship was so pretty it could have been art.
Some people called her “Cookie Mama”. Her chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies were the best ever. Her thank yous were extra special if she added a dozen or so cookies.
Other people called her Elonna, Lee, grandma, great grandma, aunt or cousin. Jeanette Budke, Janice Keen, Joanne Rice, and Keith Rice called her Mom. She will be missed.
