Obituary
Emiko Nichols, 74, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, WA on November 12th.
Emiko was born in Gusukube, Miyako Island Japan on October 25th, 1938. She was the fifth of six children of Umito (Yagi) and Keiyu Shimoji. She spent her early childhood living on Miyako Island until her family relocated to Chibana, Okinawa just following WWII. Emiko lived with her family until she married Charles (Nick) Nichols when she was 19 years old. They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1958 where she and Nick lived after the Army. They settled in Washington State where Emiko has lived ever since.
Emiko worked at Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Hospitals for several years before retiring in 1994. Emiko was talented in many crafts and hobbies. She was self taught and enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Her favorite pastime was gardening and she had a natural talent matched by few. She was well known for her creativity; with her time and patience, she was able to create extraordinary gardens despite having limited resources.
Emiko was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Sieichi, Keizo, Hatsu and Keishiki. She is survived by her sister Hiroko, sons Charles and James, daughters Tina and Miya, and 11 grandchildren (Anthony, Timothy, Alexander, Lauren, Taylor, Rebecca, Sarah, Emma, Miya, Olivia and Silas).
A Celebration of Life Service and Reception for Emiko will be held at Washington Memorial Chapel in Sea-Tac on Sunday November 18th at 1pm.
We send our deepest sympathy to Emiko’s family and friends in this time of sorrow.
