Obituary
Encarnacion Brillantes Malla was born on May 27, 1935 in Balanga, Bataan, Philippines to parents Juan Brillantes and Consuelo Panganiban. The youngest of six siblings, she graduated from Philippines Women’s University in 1955 with a B.S. in Nutrition. Encarnacion immigrated to America in 1967 in pursuit of a better life and soon after met and fell in love with her future husband, Lope S. Malla. They were married on July 4, 1970. In their 48 years of marriage, they raised their only son, Alan; watched him marry his wife, Joleen; and were present for the birth of their grandson, Gabriel. Throughout her life, Encarnacion was known to family and friends for her caring generosity. At her home, you arrived to a warm welcome, and you left with a full stomach. She enjoyed the company of family and friends. In her final years, she struggled with health issues, but she never lost her will to nurture and take care of those she loved anyway she could.
Encarnacion passed away peacefully November 2, 2018. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Though she is gone, she leaves us well-fed with memories of her that will continue to nurture our soul. Encarnacion lived to give and we are all better for having her in our lives.
She is survived by her husband Lope, son Alan, daughter-in-law Joleen, grandson Gabriel, sister Filomena Brillantes Dunn and brother Sergio Brillantes. Encarnacion is preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Napoleon Brillantes, Cesar Brillantes, and Pacita Brillantes.
