Obituary

Ernest London, 94, of Seattle, WA, passed from this life to eternity on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Born August 9, 1922 in Ethel, AR.  Ernest was the oldest child of Robert Ernest London, Sr. and Marie Scruggs London, reared on the London family owned farm “in the delta of Arkansas.”  He walked one mile to and from Oak Dale elementary school in the Morgan Settlement community of Arkansas.  Ernest was recognized in the community as an outstanding baseball player and he kept a lively interest in baseball throughout his life.

Ernest voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army as a young man and remained through World War II.  After an honorary discharge, he traveled west to San Francisco, CA where he lived for several years.  He later made Seattle, Washington his home.  In Seattle Ernest met his wife Goldie and they shared a long marriage until her death in 2005.

His was employed as a laborer with SEATAC Construction Company for a long time.  He was a skilled craftsman, and many repairs at their adult life boarding homes and apartment rentals in the Seattle area.

He had a great love for his family and had many friends he had known for more than twenty years.  Friendship was taken seriously, yet he was not an outgoing person.  He disliked big parties and crowds.  Ernest loved to collect and read newspapers.  With his eyes closed, he could tell such fascinating stories from his readings then give a big hearty laugh.  He could laugh until tears came from his eyes.  Yet, he was a quiet, gentle and a very private man who found his own pace in life.  Ernest brought happiness and joy to many hearts.  He will be sorely missed.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and step son, Claude, his brother Marion and his sister Rosemary.  He leaves to cherish his life and memories, his daughter, Vanessa London Johnson; three grandchildren, Donessa, Joshua, and Jonathan Johnson, three great grandchildren, Dominick, Leilani and Legend Johnson, all of Phoenix AZ.  His siblings, Dorthy London Ross of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Robert, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Harlan of Syracuse, New York, Marvin of Dewitt, Arkansas and Mel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will have many pleasant memories of him.  He had many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
