Memorial for Ernestine M. Moor

Ernestine M. Moor (May 12, 1923 – February 15, 2013) beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus on Friday, February 15.  She was preceded in death by her husband Willard L. Moor and son, David M. Moor.  She is survived by her children, Lou Ann Moor, Dave (deceased) (Virginia) Moor, Dan (Suzanne) Moor, Bill (Cathy) Moor, Mary (Bob) Torseth; grandchildren Carrie (Paul) Gustafson, Stephen (Hillary) Moor, Christy (Kevin) Price, Kyle Moor, Jon (Jamaica) Moor, Mike Moor, Emily Moor, Shawna (Mark) Steenback), Ben (Alissa) Moor, Laura Moor, Kimmie Moor, Robb Torseth; great-grandchildren, Andrew, David and Lindsay Gustafson, Emmory and Evan Steenback, Luke Price, Kirby and McKenzie Moor, Eli Moor, David and Penny Moor.

Ernestine was one of six children born to Ernest and Carrie McKenzie in Prineville, Oregon.  She received many awards for track and field competition and was a member of the softball and tennis teams in high school.  She was valedictorian of her graduating class and received the Loving Cup for Outstanding Girl Graduate.

On January 13, 1943 she married Willard (Bill) Moor in Portland, Oregon.  He was called into the Air Corps one month later and Ernestine followed him from air base to air base until he was commissioned as a B-17 pilot and left to join the war effort.  She returned home to live with her parents until he returned from Italy.  Their first child, Lou Ann, was born during this time.

After WWII Ernestine and Bill moved to Portland, Oregon where David was born, then to Corvallis, OR so Bill could finish his college education at OSU.  There Daniel and William were born.  Lastly the family moved to Seattle, WA where Bill began to work for the Boeing Company.  Mary was born in 1957.

Ernestine was active in her church in West Seattle in the children’s programs.  She enjoyed studying the Word of God and participated in a yearly women’s Bible Study.  She not only lived her life for the glory of God but passed on a love for the Scriptures and a desire to be obedient to the Lord to her children who, in turn, passed this love on to their children.

Later in their lives Ernestine and Bill traveled throughout the United States including parts of the East Coast, Florida, the Southwest, Hawaii and Alaska.  Their travels also took them to Canada, Mexico and a cruise through the Panama Canal.  When Bill retired they became snowbirds spending their winters in Tucson, Arizona.  In Tucson they became very involved in the El Camino Baptist Church Agape Fellowship entertaining friends and family, enjoying outdoor activities and playing cards and dominoes.

Our beloved mother spent her life as a homemaker raising, along with our father, five children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  Her encouraging support of each family member, her desire that each of us live our lives to honor God and her constant prayers on our behalf have resulted in an eternal legacy of love for our Savior, close family relationships and personal faith in Jesus Christ in all four generations.

As Ernestine’s health failed she requested each night that a Psalm be read to her before she slept and a prayer of blessing on her family be offered .  Her favorite passage was Psalm 34.  It was her desire to share the following portions of that Psalm with you.

Psalm 34

1 I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;

22 The Lord redeems his servants;
no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.
