Obituary
On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, Ethel, the beloved Matriarch of our family, devoted wife, mother, and friend unexpectedly departed this life and is now resting in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ.
Ethel M. Ellis was born on May 18, 1945, in Natchez, Mississippi to the union of Jacob and Mary Stewart. She had three bothers – Charles Stewart, Herman Stewart, and Walter Stewart. She was the baby girl of her siblings and often referred to as “Baby Sister”.
Ethel graduated from Sadie D. Thompson High School in Natchez, Mississippi then moved to Seattle, WA with her aunt Thelma Washington in 1964. In Seattle, she met the love of her life Rosell Ellis Sr., and was married for 54 years. To this union five beautiful children were born; Mary Reeve (Milton) of Nevada, Felecia Golden (Juan) of Kansas, Kireen Ellis (Mike) of Washington State, Rosell Ellis Jr. (Aleksandra) of Washington State, and Timothy Ellis of Georgia.
Ethel gave her life to Christ in November 1977, was a member of Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Wilbert Reed, Sr. She then joined New Direction Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Pastor Wilbert Reed, and now the Reverend Pastor Matthew Thornton. She was a dedicated Usher serving on the Usher Board for more than 40 years, she was the adviser of the Junior Usher Board at Goodwill, was on the culinary committee always cooking and serving at various church events. She faithfully served as the Pastor’s Aid until the Lord called her home.
Ethel worked at Boeing for 44 years and 8 months until she retired in December of 2015. She worked as a Mechanic, Team Leader, and Supervisor in Bluestreak. Ethel received several awards and accolades during her tenure with Boeing. Ethel was a loyal, hardworking and dedicated employee who was passionate about her job and was known to speak her mind.
One of Ethel’s favorite hobbies was online shopping. She absolutely loved online shopping! The UPS/FedEx and Mailman all new her by name. Ethel also had a passion for cooking and experimenting with new recipes. She was an excellent cook often sought out for her delicious banana pudding.
Ethel loved the Lord, was strong in her faith, cherished her family, and particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids popping popcorn and watching movies. She always looked forward to having all her family home for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The entryway wall in her home was covered floor-to-ceiling with photos of her family and grandchildren. Ethel was full of life and her personality was such that if you needed her, she was always there. She will truly be missed by all that came to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Charlie Rollins, Jacob and Mary Stewart, brothers Charles Stewart, Walter Stewart, and Herman Stewart and leaves to mourn her: husband Rosell Ellis Sr, of 54 years, Her children; Mary Reeve (Milton), Felecia Golden (Juan), Kireen Ellis (Mike), Rosell Ellis Jr., and Timothy Ellis. Her grandchildren, Michael Reeve (Jenae), Milton Reeve, Jacob Reeve, Tisell Ellis, Tegan Ellis, and Titan Ellis and one great grandchild, Anaya Reeve. Along with many relatives, her Aunt Thelma Washington of Washington State, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and the New Direction church family.
Ethel was a jewel and as the obituary stated – to know her was to love her and after getting to know her you knew her bark was much bigger than her bite. Working at New Direction I really got to know her as an usher, as a great cook, as the best Pastor’s Aid President any Pastor could ask for and a Child of God.. Her banana pudding was the first I ever had (Wow I was hooked and so was my husband) and she even gave me the recipe. After moving away and returning for a meeting she brought banana pudding enough to share with others at the hotel. Always did things in a big way with excellence. My love to the family – praying for you now and for the days ahead. Sis. Marian Waters/Deacon George Waters RIP my Sister.
