Obituary

Eugene F. Boileau from the greatest generation died peacefully in his home at age 83 surrounded by his sons June 19, 2008. Born September 2nd, 1924 in Seattle, Gene was raised in the Beacon Hill area by his grandmother Frances Cooke. A graduate of Cleveland High School Gene was drafted by the US Army in 1943 just 2 weeks prior to his graduation ceremony. He served in the Pacific until 1946 and was happy to return to Seattle to reunite with his childhood friend and love of his life Jacqueline G. Woods. They married in 1946 and raised their sons in the Blakey Manor, Burien area. Gene was employed by Powell Construction, Burien WA for 37 years until his retirement in 1986. He and his wife enjoyed traveling but his favorite pastime during the summer months was growing tomatoes and delivering them to his longtime neighbors and friends. Gene was well known for his kindness, thoughtfulness and he had a knack of making everyone of all ages laugh. He lived a wonderful life and those who know him will never forget the man who may have had a small stature but a huge heart. During the football season Gene and his son Larry never missed a Huskies home game since 1973. Gene will be missed but will never be forgotten with the cherished memories forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dan Cassin for his help, patience and kindness towards the care of Gene. And a thank you to Fransican Hospice.
Gene is survived by his sons, Lawrence Boileau Sharon , James Boileau Maria Qureshi and grandson Serg. Gene is preceded in death by his wife Jacquiline in 1999

Dear Jim and Larry,

As neighbors of Gene and Jackie for many years we really had some fun times. It was especially fun at the Christmas parties with all the neighbors together. Gene’s flowers and expecially his tomatoes were wonderful. We really miss his laugh and alway a wave to us when we drove by. Now he’s with Jackie and smiling down at both of you. Our thoughts are with you.

Gene and Jackie were my patients from the time I started at Five Corners 1957 until I retired in 1999. I remember Gene came back from the service in the Pacific with malaria which the VA initially said he could not have a flare up on the Puget Sound area but he did!!!

I made a house call to their Blakely Manor home which was just a few blocks from my first office when he had a flare up in the middle of the night. I took blood smears which proved he had malaria which he took to the VA to prove his case. I remember Jackie’s hearing and speech difficulties as well. Gene was a remarkable man who was a credit to his family, friends and nation.

I am Guyneitha Clausen, wife of Ove John Clausen Johnny who worked with Gene at Powell Construction all those years. John passed away in 1997. Our family considered Gene and Jackie our good friends. In addition I know that John considered it a blessing to have Gene as a co-employee at Powell Construction. He was dependable and a pleasure to work along with on the crew. We have many fond memories of Gene and Jackie. I am certain that if Cecil Powell and his wife Maxine were here they would join us in sending you, the family of Gene Boileau, sincerest condolences in his passing. May it be of some comfort to you that others remember him fondly and feel your loss. Love to each of you, Guyneitha Clausen and son, David Clausen
