Thinking of Gene fondly, and sorry that I will not be able to attend the memorial service as I will be out of town. Prayers for you, Michael, and the family who bear this loss during the holiday season. Peace be with you all.

I hadn’t heard anything about Gene since high school. In those days, Gene could be counted on to take it up a notch, which scared a lot of us half to death. My favorite memory is driving up to Mount Wilson and Gene trying to pass us. For miles he stayed in the oncoming lane beside us, giving us the famous Gene Graves grin, never looking to see if there was anyone coming toward us. It is amazing any of us is alive to tell that story. I have to confess that I was amazed to hear he lived for 73 years.

Gene was a singularly warm, friendly presence in the neighborhood. My thoughts are with all of his loved ones in this difficult time. Gene will be sorely missed.
