One of the all time great guys.

A great supporter of Evergreen athletics and kids as a whole. He was always willing to give of his own time to help anyone.

He was an inspiration to me and the members of my coaching staff. It is so easy to think back to all the good times we had with Gene as the team doctor. There are so many stories that still make me laugh.

Gene will be missed.

GOODBYE OLD FRIEND AND DOCTOR

Dr. Hamburger was my doctor for many years starting when he was located in Beverly Park and then in Burien. One time, when seeing him about something, I was diagnosing my own symptoms, he stopped me by saying, “Who’s the doctor here?” I still laugh thinking about that. He was one of a kind.

We remember Gene as a caring Doctor for us and others. Sam appreciated his help in providing sports physicals for athletes in need. We remember him as a great story teller and he was as much of a “character” as his story characters. His “fuzzywig” story was a classic and the more we laughed, the more he would embellish the story. Our loving thoughts are with you and the family, Rena.

It is with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face that I am remembering my boss and my friend Dr. Gene. In his Beverly Park medical practice he took an eager young high school graduate under his wings, guided and taught me the medical world with compassion and kindness for people. I have so many fond memories of our work days together. I remember our long talks, his great knowledge, wisdom and humor. Dr. Gene, you may no longer be with us on earth, but your memories, stories and spirit will always be part of me. It is with a sad heart that I send my love and prayers to Dr. Rena and Mary. Take care and God Bless.

I and my family send our condolences to you and your family!

Once Eugene and you

went to Saudi Arabia to help at a new hospital for awhile. My daughters, Jeanette, Annette and I were so happy when you came back to your medical practices in Burien!

Over the years, since you and Eugene retired, we have thought of you and your family – hoping that you and Eugene were having an enjoyable retirement.

I not only thought of you as my doctor I also thought of you as a friend. Jeanette and Annette really liked you as our doctor too!

We wish you and your family well under this trying time!

Sincerely,

Barbara Rice

Dear Family and Friends of Gene Hamburger,

He was the most colorful uncle a person could have. You always knew when Gene was in the room. One could hear a robust conversation followed by laughter. In the middle of the croud would be Gene beeming his smile on all around him. As my uncle, he was larger then life in many ways. Gene was a Doctor, flew airplanes, and traveled to exotic lands. Not your average uncle material. But nothing was average about Gene. If you were in need of intellectual stimulation, Gene was your man. He read as much as possible so that he could make informed opinions and have meaningful if not heated discussions, sometimes just for the sake of having an arguemant.

Gene was a pillar of a man. I will miss him as an uncle and as an unusual friend.

My thoughts are with his family as they process his passing. Loosing a spouse, dad and grandfather is never easy. Big Hugs.

Dear Hamburger Family, It is with great sadness that we learned of Dr. Gene’s passing. I owe my start in medicine to Gene, as he pulled in some political clout from the Docs at Standring Hospital to help me get into Medical School.

I hope that I am half the Doctor he was…….

My mother, Bobbie, also sends her warmest regards from her home in Bellevue.

On behalf of the Dawson and Standring Family, please accept our warmest thoughts for your loss…..

Thank you Dr Gene, we will miss you.

An old memory – 58th st in Ocean City ~1948. I remember that it was hard to believe that my old father had such a young brother. We will miss his wry humor.

Dear Hamburger Family,

Dr. Gene was my grandma’s doctor for many years. My father & mother were patients of his as well. It was only natural for my generation to become patients too. Yes!! 3 generations of care by the best doctor I’ve ever known. He was greatly missed when he retired. Every doctor I’ve been too since Dr. Gene, has had a tough act to follow. Dr. Rena, you came in at a very close second!!

I pray for you & your family. May you find comfort & peace in the words of the people that appreciated Doc Gene so much. He was a great man!

Gene was a terrific doctor and great friend. He smiled easy and knew much. We had many good moments on the sidelines at Evergreen games where he mended limbs and I shot pictures for the paper. I think Gary Gagnon let him call a few plays too. He made such a difference in all our lives.
