Obituary
Eunice Evelyn Knopp was born on November 7, 1914, to Erwin Eugene Knopp and Doris Lohse Knopp in Winona, Minnesota. She was the oldest of seven children, followed by Phyllis, Eugene, Kenneth, Kathyrn, Brian and Bertram.
Her childhood was a happy one, spending summers at their cabin on Prairie Island. After high school she attended beauty school and worked as a hairdresser. She married Lawrence Arthur Hazelton, on December 13, 1941. While Lawrence served in the war, Eunice and two friends drove to Seattle, where they worked at Boeing. After the war she returned to Winona where Lawrence ran a Texaco station. Their son Richard Erwin was born in 1947.
Eunice loved the Pacific Northwest and convinced Lawrence “who only lived to make her happy,” to return to Seattle in 1950 to work at Boeing. They resided in West Seattle and shared a home with Grandpa and Grandma Knopp. It was the joyous gathering place for the Knopp families at Christmas. Richard got married to Marilyn in 1974. Eunice got her grandson, Erik in 1988.
When Eunice and Lawrence retired, they moved into a house they’d had built on waterfront property by Port Orchard. Eunice loved living on the water, and they became Snowbirds in the winter.
After Lawrence passed in 1990, Eunice moved to Woodinville to be closer to her family, which in 1993 now included her “honey girl” Sonja. Eunice passed peacefully on October 29, 2015, nine days short of her 101st birthday.
My husband and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of your beloved Eunice. Although we never had the opportunity to meet Eunice, personally, we wanted to share with you comfort from Gods word found in John 5:28,29. Here Jesus showed us a wonderful example of the resurrection when he resurrected Lazarus here on earth, back to the arms of those he loved. (John 11) Remember also that our Heavenly Father expresses his loving compassion for all of us, when someone we love dies (Psalm 34:18) Be sure to share your memories with those who surround you, for the memories shared are the ones most truly cherished, may they bring you a sense of peace and joy to your hearts as you begin to heal. Take care of yourselves and each other during this very difficult time.
