Obituary

Evelyn Hinkle

Evelyn was born May 30, 1910, in Salem, Oregon, and went home to be with the Lord on June 27, 2004. She joins her husband of 65 years who predeceased her in 1998.

Evelyn was raised in Olympia, WA. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Van R. Hinkle, on June 6, 1933. She joyfully devoted her life to being a homemaker and raising their two children. She was a very elegant woman who loved all beautiful things, especially flowers, and was an avid Husky football fan. Her greatest pleasure in life, though, was her family. After moving briefly to Connecticut, Evelyn and Van made their home on Mercer Island where she resided for the past 37 years until the time of her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Forselius, son, Greg Hinkle Mary Ellen, grandchildren, Melissa Webley Kyle, Sam Forselius, Heather Hinkle, Holly Hinkle, and Carly Baroh. She leaves her family and friends with loving and precious memories of her 94 wonderful years. She will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her.

God looked around His garden

and found an empty place.

He then looked down upon the earth,

and saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you

and lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful;

He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,

He knew you were in pain.

He knew that you could never

get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough

and the hills were hard to climb,

So he closed your weary eyelids

and whispered, “Peace be thine.”

It broke our hearts to lose you,

but you did not go alone;

For part of us went with you

the day God called you home.

Remembrances may be made to Swedish Hospice, 5701 6th Avenue South, Suite 504, Seattle, WA 98108.

My memories of dear Mrs. Hinkle are of a lovely, kind and sweet lady.As a close friend of her daughter, Suzanne, I have happy memories of staying in the Hinkle home on several occasions. One time Mrs. Hinkle and I both thrilled to the wonderful LIBERACE program on the lovely black and white TV in their elegant home. As a pianist, I appreciated his talent and was great fun to share this with Mrs. Hinkle. She was always a kind and sweet person to me and I will never forget her beautiful smile and gracious ways. Deepest sympathy to her family. Much love and caring, Carol and Jim Carlson

With sincere sympathy to Evelyn’s family. I didn’t know Suzanne’s mother well, but remember how very proud she was of her family and how much she loved them. She just radiated this joy!

Evelyn and Van were special friends for many years. We’ve kept it touch with Evelyn since Van’s passing with both home and care center visits, the last time only a few weeks ago. Her last words were that she wished she could be with Van. Her smile was the same as ever – warm and beautiful.

Dear Ones,

Our sincerest sympathy. Evelyn and Van were dear friends and fellow Christians.

Van was lawyer and was a great help when my father and aunt died. Evelyn was always very gracious and a lovely lady. We will miss them.

We loved them very much.

I knew Mrs. Hinkle mainly when I was a child and as someone who lived in the neighborhood. I also went to school with her son Greg for several years before they moved.

My parents, Jack and Noni Lynch, knew her, and her late husband, Van, well. My father Jack, also born in 1910, went to school here in Olympia with Evelyn and Van and liked them both very much. My dad also worked in the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with Van, and succeeded Van as Prosecuting Attorney.

I’m sorry to hear of her death but comforted to know she had a long, successful and happy life.

Evelyn was one of mom’s favorite cousins. There were too many visits, picnics, dinners and memories to recount here, but I will always remember Evelyn – even as she got older – as forever ‘cute’ with a sweet smile and loving attitude. I hope she and Mom are having a good long visit in their heavenly mansions!–Love and God’s peace with you Suzy and Greg. From cousin Marlas
