Obituary
Evelyn McCandliss Klopfenstein
Passed away September 22, 2010.
Survived by her loving husband Robert of 14 years, daughter Jan Ron Gunderson, son Bruce Marcie McCandliss, grandchildren Greg Rhonda Gunderson, Pam Peder Smith, Traci Joe Bouchard, six beautiful great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was a stay at home wife and mother. She enjoyed playing and watching sporting events but Evelyn’s passion was playing golf until she was 84.
She was a member of the Women’s League at Maplewood Golf Course for many years where she won many golfing trophies. She also enjoyed sewing, family gatherings, cooking and was an accomplished furrier.
Evelyn’s early years through high school in the Bay City/Nehalem Oregon area found her playing baseball and basketball. In her early work career she worked for Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company.
Evelyn was first married to Fred Bales and on his passing in 1956, she relocated to the Seattle area in 1959 to raise Bruce with her new husband Steve McCandliss and daughter Jan. Steve passed away in 1993. She married Bob Klopfenstein in 1996 and they have had a loving marriage and relaxing retirement lifestyle at Wesley Homes in Des Moines.
Evelyn was very active in Wesley Homes activities until she suffered a series of strokes in 2000 and 2001, which took away some of her mobility. She continued to be as active in Wesley Homes functions as her strength would allow until her death.
Her family and close friends will hold a private celebration of her life at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Bonney-Watson Chapel, Washington Memorial Park, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Bruce & Marcie McCandliss.
Private viewing Sunday, September 26 from 1:00-4:00 at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home.
An open celebration of Evelyn’s life for Wesley Homes residents, family and friends will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, at Wesley Terrace, 815 So. 216th, Des Moines, WA.
Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wesley Homes Circle of Concern or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

My dears Bruce and Jan,
I am sorry to learn of the passing of your Mom. You are fortunate in having so many years together.
And there can be no doubt about it, she raised outstanding, wonderful children and had a very loving family.
Long may she live in your hearts and memories.

Auntie Ev will be missed so much; but oh, such wonderful memories she’s blessed us with! She radiated love; you could feel it when you were with her and see it in those beautiful eyes. She had a truly an amazing life. We feel blessed to be part of it. Love to each of you,
We were saddened to hear of Evelyn’s death. She was a very special lady.
Please accept our deepest sympathy,
I am so sad to hear of your mother’s passing. She was a gem! In many ways she was like a second mother to me. She helped me learn many things through Girl Scouts and just hanging around your house for many years. I think of her fondly and send my hugs and love to you both, Jan and Bruce.
Jan and Bruce and family, We send our heartfelt sympathies … My mom is 90 and the last survivor at age 90 of our parents .. Mom is Vivian Hughes, you may remember her? … She lives at Wesley Gardens across the street from Wesley Terrace … Both of our fathers have passed away and Norm’s mother passed years ago. Wishing you peace after her passing. Love, Mary Ellen and Norm
Yes, Heaven does have a new Angel. It is very difficult to lose your loved ones, but we will all be together again someday, and rejoice in the House of the Lord “Forever”
Heaven has a new angel.
Jan, Bruce, Marcie and Family,
So sorry for your loss. She will now spread her love with her beautiful smile through eternity.
Much Love and Sympathy,
Noemi
Dear Jan and to Evelyn’s extended family…I was sad to hear of your Mom’s passing, especially at a time that is so challenging for you. It sounds like she had challenges too but had a wonderful life despite the tribulations. And, what a doll. I am thinking of you.
Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time. May you remember the good times and great life your Mother enjoyed and shared with her family.

We are sorry to hear the passing of Auntie, we thought of her quite often. Memories when she and Bob came down to Angie’s HS graduation. That was very special, also she gave some hides to Scott & Angie, they were mink I think. Hi to everyone sorry we can’t make the service. The time for my mom has not come yet but we feel it in a couple of days. Love to you all.

I love the picture of Nana, she always looked so great. I will miss her so much, but I will cherish every moment and every private conversation we had we had many. She was very special to me. I know she has already played several rounds of golf by now in heaven and has probably broken several records. I am so grateful to have known her.
