Obituary

Fook Sam Look was born on April 8, 1933, in Canton, China. He moved to the United States in 1945 with his mother to reunite with his father, who served in the US Navy.  In 1955 he travelled to Hong Kong where he met and married Susan Tsang. He brought Susan to Seattle in 1956 and they’ve been here ever since. Sam worked as a machinist at the Boeing Company for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was a dedicated father, instilling the values of fairness and honesty in his four children. He was also always selfless in providing for his family, willing to work the evening shift to take care of his family’s needs during the daytime.

His selflessness was shown in many ways to his extended family as well. He helped many of his and his wife’s extended families immigrate to the United States, helping with everything from paperwork, opening his home to them, cooking meals, and providing rides when needed. Sam loved to cook. He also had a great interest in all things mechanical, from airplanes, cars and motorcycles to the fine machinery in watches. Though he loved to watch boxing on television, there was a delicate side to him as well, as he would provide food for the neighborhood squirrels. The focus of his life, though, was always on supporting his family, both his immediate and extended family.

In early May 2012 Sam entered the intensive care unit at Swedish Hospital; he passed away in his sleep in the early hours of June 2, 2012. He is survived by his wife Susan, children Marilyn, Murphy, Mitchum and Michael (Judy), and grandchildren Martin, Matthew, and Marissa.
