Frank N. Olsen
‘Grumps’
Frank N. Olsen, 79, passed away on Nov 16 at his home in Federal Way. Born on Jan 16, 1930 in Tacoma, to Justin and Anne Olsen, Frank attended Lincoln High School and in 1951, married the love of his life, Yvonne. He earned a BA in engineering from PLU and spent many years working at Boeing as a safety engineer. At Boeing, he worked on many missile and weapons systems, including the Saturn booster rockets for the Apollo program.
More important than work for Frank was his private life and family. He was an avid salmon fisherman, who also enjoyed netting smelt and eating crab. Frank’s sharp sense of humor and enjoyment of life was shared with his friends and passed onto his family.
Frank is survived by Yvonne Olsen, his wife of 58 years, his sister Sonja, and his three children and their spouses: Julie and John Enges, Eric and Susan Olsen, and David and Anne Olsen. Frank loved and was immensely proud of his five grandchildren: Justin, Michael, Christopher, Tyler, and Meghan.
An informal open house will be held on Nov 21 from 1-4 pm at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Federal Way Lions Club scholarship fund, P.O. Box 3552, Federal Way, WA 98063.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
With deepest sympathy,
Diane and Jack
I can’t being to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I loved Frank very much. Growing up with your family across the street, I grew to love you all very much. Please know that I am thinking of each of you, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My 2nd Dad was such a jokester! My personal favorite was the thumb in the butter trick and his greeting to me “You look good since you gained weight, Barb” which wouldn’t be quite so funny now as it was when I was a teenager. Frank will be missed by me and many others. My prayers are with you and the whole family, Yvonne my 2nd Mom. Love, Barb Frary Holt
We are sorry for your loss.
Uncle Frank,
I will always remember how “good I look since I gained weight” I will always remember how “ugly my knees are” I will always remember the $100 I didn’t get because I didn’t name my baby Frank. I will always remember the grandest of tricks you ever played on me was when you convinced me that the greatest thing about “your” champagne was that it would not give me a hangover and you encouraged me to drink until I had my fill. That was over 30 years ago and I can honestly say I have NEVER been as sick as I was that night and it was the WORST hangover I have ever had. To this day I still can not drink champagne!!! I will always remember your hugs, your outgoing personality, your quick whit and your laugh but most of all I will always remember that you were a great uncle who always put a smile on my face and left me many many fond memories.I will miss you.
Love Chrissy
