Obituary
Frank S. Guisness
Frank S. Guisness, legendary Husky basketball player and consummate car salesmen, peacefully died of congestive heart failure at home attended by his family on April 5, 2018.
Frank was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on September 20, 1930. His parents A.T. and Arvilla Guisness moved from the Midwest to Vancouver, Washington when he was a young boy.
He starred as an all-state player at Fort Vancouver high School before being recruited to the University of Washington. His Husky career spanned three varsity seasons, 1950 to 1952 seasons. Frank was recognized in the 1951 and 1952 seasons as first team All-Coast and All American, second team. He was a member of the 1957 AAU Championship Seattle’s Buchan Bakers. The University of Washington inducted Frank into their athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
When he realized his basketball days were over he exchanged his basketball shoes for tennis shoes to pursue with enthusiasm an active life of tennis playing and constant exercise to age 87.
Frank saw opportunity in the booming post-World War II car business and joined the Blume family’s University Chevrolet after graduation. He became that dealership’s top salesman and recognized for regional and national awards. That association was the beginning of a lifetime career as an auto and truck sales person. After 20 years as sales manager at Westside Ford, he started his business as an auto broker. He found his niche serving customers from all walks of life who bought low-price to premium-price cars at fair prices without the hassle of negotiation.
Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years JoAnne; the Guisness’s daughter Mary Timberlake (Craig) and their children Nick, Lisa, Joe, Christy and Alex; and their son Greg (Tammy) and their children Ryan, Jack, and Kyle. He was predeceased by his brother Bob and his sister-in-law Betty.
He faithfully practiced his Catholic tradition throughout his life. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00AM at St. Bridget Church, 4900 NE 50th St., Seattle, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Carmelite Monastery, 2215 NE 147th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155 or you favorite charity.
Frank was a good friend and neighbor. He will be missed by many
Frank was such a bright spirit to all those who knew him.
He will be missed.
I had Frank for a basketball coach when I was in my teens. He was a great coach and a great example for myself and friends. I even bought a car from him at westside ford.
Frank was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
I met Frank in the mid 1980’s. He had many gifts that came natural for him. Everyone knew Frank and enjoyed working and visiting with him. He shared so much with so many people. He will be missed by many. Thank you Frank for being a good man.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
God speed
