Frank White

February 20, 1943 - November 13, 2014

Obituary

Frank White, age 71 died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from natural causes.  Frank was born February 20, 1943 to Leon White and Corene Levingston in Shreveport Louisiana.  He married Josephine Coleman of Mansfield Louisiana, February 24, 1965.  They were divorced after 20 years of marriage.  Frank was an exceptional student and graduated at the top of his high school class at the age of 16.  He went on to earn his Bachelors of Science in Engineering from Southern University A&M, in Louisiana and later earned his Masters in Business Administration from Seattle University.  While at Southern, Frank was an enthusiastic member of the esteemed Southern marching band, playing the trombone.  Frank loved to learn and continued his education by obtaining a Brokerage and Real Estate license in later years.

Immediately after graduation in 1965, Frank secured a government position at the Naval Base in Bremerton, WA where he established lifetime friendships.  He later held various federal government positions and also worked at Boeing.  He enjoyed traveling the country and spent many summers attending family reunions and participating in Charles Brown High School reunions.  One of his passions was playing dominos and cooking the best BBQ ribs you ever tasted.  His family and friends lived for the moments he would BBQ.

Perhaps, one of his greatest successes has been the establishment of an Income Tax Service in the heart of South Seattle, M&M Income Tax and White Reality for over a decade.  Business started out small with just a few hundred clients and grew to almost 2,000 clients with the dedication of his business partner and staff.  Frank was a staple in the neighborhood, with many Black-owned businesses in the Rainier corridor.  A testament to the sense of trust and community that was cultivated by M&M Income Tax Service was the droves of individuals of every ethnicity who piled into the small waiting room patiently waiting to have their taxes completed. One could hear children chattering, see food being brought in by clients, and hear side phone conversation about what was on the television. The smiles and laughter of friends and family united everyone in that small space.  Despite the mayhem at times, Frank could never pass up an opportunity to offer his sound, often eccentric advice and wisdom to whomever might be sitting at his desk.  He was well respected as a businessman and adored by many.

Frank was surrounded by the love and support of his friends, family and his life partner Mildred Dade.  Frank is survived by his former wife, Josephine Coleman; three daughters, Joycelyn Thomas, Frankie White and Malitka White of Seattle; five grandchildren, Patrice Thomas, Robert Thomas, Jamaal Thomas, Aisa Thomas and Ebony Thomas of Seattle; one great-grandson, Jamaal Thomas, Jr. of Seattle; his namesake and uncle, 109 year old Frank Levingston of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, Samuel White and Isaac White of Seattle; sisters, Naomi Wells of Shreveport, LA, Ruth Lomax of Seattle and a host of relatives friends.

His parents Leon White and Corene Levingston preceded Frank in death.

Viewing will be held at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA on Friday, 12/05 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.  Services at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1634 – 19th Avenue, Seattle, WA  98122 will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 6th, 2014.  A Repass will be held directly after service and includes a meal.  Interment will follow at Evergreen-Washelli Abbey View Cemetery, Brier, WA.

Flowers may be sent to Bonney Watson.  Please send any monetary donations to the home of Frank’s daughter, Frankie White 1800 Grant Ave South Unit B2, Renton, WA 98055.  If you have any further inquiries contact Frank’s daughter, Joycelyn Thomas at 206-852-1234.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you who have expressed your condolences and offered your support.  We appreciate the gestures of love.  We look forward to celebrating his home going celebration with you.

Rest in peace, Mr. White. You were always friendly and kind to me, from my childhood days when I spent so much time at your house visiting my best friend, Joycelyn, to going to Sonics games with you and your daughters, to seeing you at family celebrations, dressed dapper, and serving up memories while you grilled wonderful food for your family and friends. You live on through your family, especially your loving daughters.

Dear Family,We Want to gave our little prayer.

Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

O gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the

Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning

love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory,

have mercy on them.

Be not severe in Your judgments, but let some

drops of Your precious Blood fall upon the

devouring flames.

and, Merciful Savior, send Your angels to conduct

them to a place of refreshment, light and peace . Amen

To my dear cousin, my perspective looking from a distance:

There was a man that had a sheep. The sheep was furry and black. One day someone stole the sheep. The man searched frantically for his sheep but could not find it. The thief was aware of the owners desire to find his sheep. In order to cover the theft of the sheep the thief decided to shear the fur from the sheep on one side. He would then pass through the town carrying the sheep with the sheared side showing. The man entered the town and searched door to door. When he asked one man if he had seen his furry sheep, the man said, I saw a man carrying a sheep through the town but the side I saw was shaven.

Let me tell you about the side I saw of cousin Frank.

I saw a man born of parents of modest means but seeking higher education. I saw a man not just able to appreciate higher education but was able to achieve it. I saw a man of strength, able to transport himself to a place where he didn’t see many people who looked like him. He didn’t have role models in this place so he operated on his vision. In spite of all the obstacles he was able to build a life, family, business and leave a legacy for his family. I saw a man that loved his family and was a gracious host to anyone visiting him. He could not do enough to make his family and friends find comfort in his surroundings.

As a cousin I see the legacy and received this generosity. This makes me proud to say you were my first cousin.

You will be missed but your legacy will forever

Love You,

Brenda, Helen and Joan

Uncle Frank,

Having the courage to speak on what you want to say, It was never at bay. To think before thee speak one can only keep.

They say wise, they say character… on people.who knew you full of laughter.

One day we would see you again with your enormous grin, being at peace we see, from indeed we morn in the thought of lost

But from heaven you smile down to bring out the sun to heat the ground

You see our eyes are red and flush, when we fell your presence you say hush…hush it will be alright

He is not saying farwell but tah-tah for now. May God bless thee, friends and family
