Obituary

Fred A CLIFTON, DDS
Fred Clifton passed into glory on 6/29/08, aged 93 years, happy at last to be joining his beloved wife, Winifred. Born in Edmonton, Canada, he proudly served in both the RCAF and American Air Force during WWII. He practiced dentistry in Des Moines, WA for many years. Fred was an elder at Green Lake Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and a staunch defender of the faith. He was an extremely generous man, opening up his home and heart to anyone in need. His corny sense of humor entertained all who loved him and no one laughed longer at his jokes than Fred himself! He was a dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all. Dr. Clifton was my dentist when I was a girl. He was fantastic. He did some “experimental” work on my teeth, and to this day they are as straight as can be! I am grateful even now, 25 years later! And looking at his Hawaiian shirts with mouth open in the dental chair was always enough to make me laugh! I now live with my husband and 2 children in Austria, and I will always remember fondly Dr. Clifton, his humor, and his dedication and very evident love for Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless you, his family, with the heritage of the joy of life he radiantly displayed. He will be missed.

It was always a pleasure for our family to go to the dentist and we appreciate the wonderful care we received. We always appreciated his love for the Lord and how he quoted scripture all the time – that was exciting. Heavens gain is our loss. We miss him in Des Moines and love him.

Dr. Clifton was my Victoria dentist for many, many years. He pulled 12 teeth of mine in one day and put those shiny braces on my teeth! We still enjoy the coffee maker he gave us for a wedding present. I ran into him at the post office often and he always spoke as if I saw him every day asking about my husband and family – each by name. We always appreciated his love for God and love for us!

Such wonderful memories of the special July 4 picnics at the Clifton’s home on Angle Lake. Fred was always the friendly, happy, jovial, welcoming host to his many guests. Fred spoke of these times the last time I was with him,a few months before he passed away. I feel an emptiness in my life now that he is gone, but my memory of him will go on and on.

With love to the entire family,

Ann

Edna Clem let us know about Dr. Clifton’s passing. We have fond memories of him, his faith and his jokes. We are sorry to hear about his passing but we’re sure he is in a much better place with his Lord.

Fred was a great and funny man. We will always remember the 4th of July’s at Fred and Winnie’s place and remember his warm greetings at church. He lived a blessed life and was able to see his children’s children grow up in the faith. Our thoughts and prayers to the Clifton clan as you say goodbye to a great saint.

I never knew another person who embraced his faith so wholeheartedly and with such joy as Dr. Clifton! A generation of us owe our solid grounding in the Christian faith to the time we spent on Sunday mornings with Dr. Clifton as our Sunday School teacher. His faith is multiplied across the generations through us and our families. What a blessing it was to know him!

Dear Clifton Family,

Our love and heartfelt sympathy go to each of you during this time of separation. Your family is a lovely reflection of this very special man. We know him in an indirect way by knowing and loving our nephew, Aaron, who has so many of the same qualities as are written about your dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Peace to each of you as you gather together and celebrate a life that will continue to touch and impact others. Love, AB and UJ

Grandpa, you were always a joy and and inspiration. I will never forget the last words you said to me from the hospital: In the middle of all your pain, in and out of consciousness I said I love you, I’ll see you later and you said ‘thanks alligator.’ I am sad you are gone, but glad you are in heaven with Grandma! It must be a good place because you always told me people were dying to go there! I love you.
