I was saddened to learn of the death of Fred. Please accept my condolences.

Fred grew up during the Depression and was forced to fend for himself from an early age. He not only survived, but succeeded admirably.

Like others of his generation, he accumulated assets to provide security and to pass on to the next generation of his family.

He was proud of his family and wanted to provide financial security for Eleaner and his children. Fred took immense satisfaction from having acheived those goals.

Fred was fortunate to have Eleaner and his children to support and care for him even when refused your offers.

Fred was a complex man with a great sense of humor. I will always remember him for his jokes and the candy he would distribute on each visit. It was my pleasure to have known Fred and to have had the opportunity to work with him.

Fred was a long time client and friend. He always had a smile and treated everyone in my office with the greatest kindness and respect. He was a great kidder and had the biggest laugh the day he showed up with a can of Fred’s choice root beer and told me it was his newest business venture. I swallowed it hook, line and sinker because after his colorful and varied business career, I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past him….you could hear his laughter all through the office and he talked of nothing else for months. I was so embarassed to find out it was a Fred Meyer product. He will be missed by friends and family alike. My condolences to the family who loved him. Cherish your last loving memories with him. Respectfully, Lynn Jones

As I sit here pondering the news of Freds death, I am saddened. However I will remember Fred as a fun loving man who was at his best in the business world he created. Some of the best times I spent wirh him were when we were together doing laundry things. The many trips to one of the stores in Spokane, or specifically a trip by air to a customer in Oregon. Fred loved to fly his plane and I ended up learning to fly myself, because of him. He let me fly the plane that trip and I enjoyrd it. I think fondly of the time we were shopping at a department store in Spokane and he spotted a lady with her dress stuck in her rear end. He offered me $100.00 if I would go up and pull it out. And $200.00 more if I would then put it back in. I declined but we laughed about this little incident all the way home. I could go on for a long time about stories of times I had with my then father in law, but I won’t. I will conclude by saying that Fred was the smartest man I think I have ever known. His wealth of knowledge on so many subjects was amazing. I truly respected this man for all of his many accomplishments and for the help he gave me and Leslie if and when we needed it.

So rest in peace Fred, and know that you will be missed.
