Obituary

Gail Marie Bailey

October 16, 1950 – February 26, 2013

Our beloved “Auntie Gail” passed away on the night of February 26, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.  Born October 16, 1950 in Seattle, Washington, Gail was the eldest child of Donald J. and S. Katherine Bailey. She grew up in Rainier Valley, attended John Muir Elementary School, Sharples Jr. High School, and graduated from Franklin High School in the class of 1968. She studied at Seattle Central Community College, where she received her Associates degree in Criminal Justice. Gail worked for the Seattle Police Department, The Humane Society, American Building Maintenance, The Woodland Park Zoo, and then retired working for the City of Seattle.

Gail took the role as a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She was always the smiling face cheering at their sporting events and recitals. Their memories are filled with collecting seashells during trips to the ocean, roasting marshmallows while camping at the family’s property, rooting at Seattle Mariner games and traveling all over the city to find complete sets of her favorite collectibles. By sharing her love for animals with them, she gave them a lifetime of memories. Gail loved football, especially the Franklin Quakers, UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks.

Gail was preceded in death by her father, Donald Bailey, and niece Celia Kelly.  She is survived by her mother, Kae Bailey and two sisters Kim Brown (Rob), and Joan Kelly, her Aunt and Uncle, Joan and Allen Stretke, and cousin Mark Stretke.  Nieces and nephews Krystal (Nathan Green), Sheena, Jacqueline, Robert III and Omari Brown, Melissa Kelly, and Tyree Culver.  Great nieces and nephew Jalyce and Jovan Satterwhite, and Nakiya Green.  Gail leaves behind her beloved pets Boxer and Piper.

Gail was a wonderful daughter, sister, and Auntie, and a good friend to many. Gail has many friends and relatives in Seattle as well as all over the world, whom she loved and who love her dearly.

Cremation and private burial at Washington Memorial Park.

Plans for a memorial gathering are pending.

Kae, Kim, Joan, and family…Gail is a young, smiling memory to me, since I knew her best when you girls were all very young. Your family was a huge part of our lives back then, as our folks were close friends. But life gets in the way sometimes and we just wish we’d had more time with Gail and the rest of you in more recent years. Our love and condolences to each of you and I do hope we can get together soon, to share about Gail and all the years we’ve missed.

Much love,

Diana and David and family

Gail is a part of one of the most loving, devoted and caring families I know, held together even more by love than blood. While her body may be gone, she is still so much in the hearts and memories of those who loved her that she will remain for a very long time.

She was the cool teenager when I was a kid. She let Kim and me listen to her 45 records and shared her wisdom. I am so sorry I missed so much of her life, and was happy to see her last year. I wish it wasn’t my last memory of her.

Love and prayers to all,

Cheryl
