Obituary

Gail Wilkinson

Age 69, formerly of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away December 1, 2005. A longtime Scottsdale resident, Gail is most remembered as an internationally-acclaimed artist with incredible talent in porcelain, oil, and watercolor. She taught workshops throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe for over twenty-five years, won many prestigious awards, illustrated books, and was published in leading art magazines. She delighted in helping people of all ages learn to express themselves through art and became involved in teaching students in her north Scottsdale studio. Positive and cheerful, Gail was an inspiration to many students throughout the Valley. Gail’s artist’s statement in part reads, ”If you ask someone to point to themselves, they will not point to their head but to their heart. Creativity is not centered in the brain, it is a labor of love.” Gail is survived by her husband of 49+ years, George and five children: Cameron Shellie Jones, Kelly Foley John both of Washington, Tracy Behymer Chris, Georgia Ard Jon both of Arizona, and Scott Elieneke Farhenhorst of Canada. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Claire, of Canada, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A “Celebration of Gail’s Life” will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 East Bell Road, Phoenix, Arizona, 85254. Contributions in her memory may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition NOCC www.ovarian.org. You may see examples of Gail’s artwork by visiting www.gailwilkinson.com.
