Garnet Arlene Hall

Obituary
Garnet A. Hall, age 90, passed peacefully on February 5, 2007 in Federal Way. Garnet is survived by her sons John Adriana and Richard Hall; daughter Julie Ron Hay; three grandchildren, Grace Hall, Christian Hall and Ross Hay; one great grandchild, Ryan Hay; sisters Jackie Hellmann and Betty Jean West; and eleven nieces and nephews. Her husband Norman died in 1984.
Garnet was born in a little house near the Raccoon River in Sac City, Iowa, and was the first of five daughters born to Fred, Jr. and Vera Pellersels. She met Norman while she was working at the Candy Kitchen in Sac City. They married in 1937 and raised three children while living in Sac City, Fonda, Manson, and Sioux City, Iowa.
Garnet and her family moved from Sioux City to Tacoma in 1964. After arriving in Tacoma, she soon began a career in classified advertising with the News Tribune, and retired from the company in 1988 after 23 years of service. She made many wonderful and lasting friendships with her fellow Tribune employees and their families.
In recent years and in declining health, Garnet maintained a positive attitude and a strong will to live, and always kept her kind, gentle, and appreciative nature. She loved her family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers, including the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff that so capably cared for her.
Garnet’s hobbies included cooking, and for many years almost everyone she encountered received a gift of homemade cookies. She loved and cared for wildlife and companion animals, providing many lost or neglected neighborhood cats with a loving home.
A remembrance gathering is being planned for her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project, www.feralcatproject.org, or other favorite animal welfare charities.
Dear Friend:
May the angels you envisoned so many times, lead you to that gentle place where you will be surrounded by those you loved, the many animals you saved and the flowers that you cherished.
Blessings,
Liz Pribble
So sorry to hear of Garnet’s passing. The neighbor kittys will greatly miss her but all those kitty’s in heaven will have a great care giver.
My deepest condolences to Garnet’s family. I had the pleasure of working with Garnet at the TNT for 8 years.
To this day, I still make her potato salad and have fond memories of her cooking. In 1979 she gave me a beautiful Christmas Bell ornament, which I hang proudly every year on my tree and think of her. This year it will be with sorrow. But she lived a wonderful, long life. She had a warm smile and twinkling eyes. She was proud of her family and loved them dearly. As well as animals. We will all miss Garnet but I am so glad she had touched my life!
Rick, sending you loving thoughs your way. I loved your mom, she was a very special lady and I will miss her. Call and keep in touch.
Josie
I am sorry to hear of your loss. We will miss her here at Virginia Mason. I wish you
all the best and we will miss seeing you. Take care.
I saw the obituary in the paper and I noticed that Garnet was from Sac City, Iowa and that is where I am from also. I graduated in 1944 and also worked at the Candy Kitchen while living in Sac. My thoughts are with your family….Joyce Maxwell
