Obituary

Gary Barnett Crane was born December 16, 1948 in Renton WA to Glen and Ardath Crane. Gary passed away unexpectedly and far too soon on April 18, in Houston,TX while away on business.

Gary graduated from Mayville High School in Mayville, N.D. , attended Highline Community College and graduated from the University of Washington in 1971 with a B.A. in Business Administration, and later earned a CPA license.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Lisa, children David, Jennifer, and Eric, grandson Austin, brother Larry (Cheri), many family and friends, and beloved cats Marco and Luna. Gary enjoyed relaxing in Maui, working with his hands, especially while spending time at his cabin on Mason Lake where he always had a project to keep him busy, and was an avid Husky football fan and loved to root on his Dawgs. Gary worked as a Comptroller for over 20 years at Mikron Industries and looke forward to retirement. He was a proud retired Air Force Reservist, member of the Ballard Elks, and U.W. Alumni Association member.

During my short time at Mikron I came to know Gary very well. I talked with him daily, sometimes just to say “hello”, usually to ask his help on something; he was always very patient and always helpful. We talked about a lot of things, and as we did, we discovered that we had a number of life experiences in common; same colleges, same degrees, both CPA’s, same branch of the Military and same Military Base. Gary and I sat together in Houston at the after hours painting sesssion and we painted pictures and had a great time. I’ll always remember his gentle ways, mentoring spirit and never ending smile and sense of humor. I will miss him deeply.

Gary was a great friend, brother-in-law, uncle, husband, father and grand-father. Holidays, Husky Games, and Mason Lake won’t be the same without him. And we will always ask, “What would Gary say?”.

Sending hugs to Lisa, David, Jennifer, Eric, Autin, Larry, Marco and Luna.

It seems like yesterday that I walked down the isle with Lisa to give her to Gary on their wedding day. It was a good match for as long as it lasted. Gary will be missed by all.

I knew Gary from the Lake and he was always focused on some project, yet was funny, kind and calm. His family is a testament to the decent man that he was. He will be missed.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one. Death is one of the most difficult things we face in life but may it comfort you to know that others care. I have found great encouragement when reading the beautiful words penned in the Bible at Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” May this promise bring your family comfort in this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. We were good friends in the Reserves -86th APS at McChord. He was a great person and my buddy. I do remember meeting Lisa and they stopped by to see me when I was working in Astoria. I too went on with the Air National Guard in Oregon and retired after 24 years. Many times I thought of Gary when I was in Seattle but never had the time… so sorry.
