Gary Barney Clark passed away on December 5, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born January 18, 1945 in Provo, Utah. Gary was a loving son, brother, father and life partner and that love was returned by all that knew him. He was the eldest son of Una Loy and Dr. Barney B. Clark, the first recipient of the artificial heart. Gary and his father suffered from cardiomyopathy. Gary faced his illness with grit and determination for 19 years inspiring his medical professionals as he lived an active lifestyle.

Gary was raised in the Seattle area and attended Highline High School. In 1966 at 21 years of age, Gary joined the Marines and served at Camp Pendleton and Cherry Point, North Carolina. After which he worked for Phase Linear Stereo, Nordstrom, and Wright’s Nursery. In 1999 Gary moved to Terre Haute, Indiana to be with his life partner. Once there, he began work at Great Dane. Gary had several interests including reading 1000’s of books and creating impressive landscapes. Gary is survived by his life partner Jan, his son David, his grandchildren Katie and Evan, and his siblings Stephen and Karen.

Gary will be remembered as a loving spirit who gave of himself to others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be missed.

A private family service will be held to Celebrate Gary’s life.

So sorry to hear this. Gary was my supervisor at a company called Wesmar in the Seattle area. Super nice guy!
