Gary Michael Taylor

December 21, 1946 - November 9, 2004

Obituary

Gary Michael Taylor was born in Seattle, Washington to Donald L. Taylor and Alice E. Taylor. He was the third of seven children. Some of Gary’s early years were spent in Portland, Oregon, but he considered Seattle his home.

Gary and Janet were married at Central Lutheran Church on July 6, 1980. With her son, Mike Volz, they resided in West Seattle. A daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, was born four years later and will always be Gary’s greatest pride and joy.

Gary is also survived by hes brothers Donald Bill, Marshall, James Harvey, and Richard RT and sisters Dianna and Susan. He was ”Uncle Gary” to Aaron Volz and Mylo Lang and dearly loved by their parents Mike and Amanda Amy. He was son-in-law to Howard and Ruth Wingfield who treasured him as a wonderful husband and father.

Gary was known to many as Dr. Trash-or ‘the trashman’ – a name he gave himself after many years as a janitor for the Boeing Company and the hauling jobs he took on whenever the Machinists Union was on strike. He was founder and sole member of the Dr. Trash International Fan Club and his motto was ”One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”

His sense of humor and gift of gab earned Gary friends wherever he went and he was fond of saying that no matter where he traveled he would know someone. Whether at a rock or jazz concert, a Mariners game or the London airport, there was always someone he could greet by name and say, ”I remember you.” Even those who had never met Gary benefited from his generous heart. He never passed a stranded motorist without stopping or calling for help. During Seattle’s infrequent snowstorms he alsways spent the night picking up strangers and making sure they go home safely.

Gary will be remembered for his humor, generosity and awareness of others by a large circle of friends and grateful strangers.

I will never forget Gary and the smile on his face when ever we saw each other. No matter how my day had gone up until then, after a few minutes of talking with Gary, my mood had shifted. Gary taught me that it is not what you do or what your job is. It is how you show up and make a difference in people’s life that counts. Gary’s light will continue to shine in my heart.

I was new to the Factory in March, coming from another building, and immediately Gary introduced himself and made me feel right at home.I’m in charge of the coffee area and he was always there to help out so, of course he got free coffee. He always spoke so fondly of his family, especially his daughter whom he was so proud of. I am so sorry,I will miss him

So sorry to hear of your loss of Gary. We were on the same crew at work, although we did not work at the same site. Gary will be missed by our gang. He was always very good about his cleaning and he would go out of his way for the customer’s needs and requests. I was extremely sad when I heard from our dispatcher what had happened. I’m praying that God would bring His comfort into your lives and that He would be your ever present help in your time of need!

I worked with Gary at the Kent Space Center in the year 2000 on the move crew. Gary was one of the guys who kept us all sane. It is true that any problem that came up he would have the solution. He was a good man and has a good soul. He will be missed by all. Truly Bil

To Gary’s family,

Gary was a great man and I spent many nights with him on videochat. He was comical and funny and I enjoyed his company. Few people can make me laugh – but Gary was one of them. He was a good man – and was good to people. I send my condolences to his family, and even though I’m just a person miles away that he only knew on the computer, he was still a friend. The last time I saw Gary on videochat, he told me about a free gmail email account that you could only get by invitation only – and he offered me an account. I didn’t know then, that that night would be the last night I would talk to him. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless your family in this sad time.
