Obituary

Genevieve Ann Culler

Died Oct. 24, 2016 at age 104.  Born Aug. 19, 1912 in Kimball County, Neb. on the family homestead to Alonzo and Nettie (Shull) Shrake; the only girl with four brothers.  Married Charles D. Culler in Littleton, Colo. April 10, 1937 and they made their first home in Loveland. Colo.  Moved to Seattle during WWII.  Adopted and raised two children, Joseph Marlow Culler and Linda Ann Culler Kays.

She loved crafting, family camping, rock hunting, fishing, boating, volunteering, gardening and homemaking. Eastern Star member since 1945. Returned to college when her children were in high school to get a teaching certificate, then taught kindergarten in the Highline School District. Retired when she began to lose her hearing.  She and Charles became snowbirds and did many trips to Arizona and Mexico, along with other traveling.  Charles died Feb. 17, 2001. She sold her house in West Seattle and lived in an apartment close to her daughter, then in an assisted living facility and finally in a little house with her daughter and Charlie, their fur baby.  She died like she wanted: at home, in her own bed, with Charlie nearby.

She was pre-decreased by her parents, her brothers, her husband and her son.  She is survived by her daughter, four grandsons Ronald Culler (Jolene) of Seattle; David Culler (Patricia) of Mukilteo; David Kays (Jennifer) of Redmond and Graham Kays (Wendy) of Kirkland; five great grandchildren: Annabelle, Caroline, Alex, Logan and Emma.  Also a step-great granddaughter Gillian and a step-great-great-grand daughter Adalyn.

Special thanks to Angels of America Home Care and Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care.  Your staff were so kind and caring.  She left this world HER way because of your help.

May her amazing memory and strong, tenacious spirit now rest in peace.

Memorial Service will be Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Southgate Masonic Hall.  1004 SW 152nd St.  Burien WA 98166.  Light lunch to follow.
