Obituary

George Arnold Powell, Jr. was born on March 11, 1959 in Oakland, CA to George Arnold Powell and Jacqueline Marie Partridge.  He has a younger sister, Yvette Marie Powell.  His parents nicknamed him “Terry”, and he has adopted this name throughout his life.

George Powell, Sr. was in the Air Force and the family lived in many air force bases in the U.S. and Japan.  After returning to the U.S., Terry settled in Philadelphia and lived with his grandfather, John, who was a big influence in his life.

Terry decided to join the US Coast Guard and was stationed at Pier 36 in Seattle, WA.  In 1979, soon after arriving, he met Valerie Allen.  They married in February, 1985.  The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Valdez, AK, and Terry moved there for a time to assist in the cleanup.  After returning to Seattle, his beloved daughter Allegra Marie Powell was born on June 24, 1989.

Terry retired from the Coast Guard in 1992 and went to work for the Washington State Ferries.  After his employment there, he went back to work for the U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian as a Radar Technician.  He retired in 2010.

He furthered his education at South Seattle Community College.  His study of interest was computer technology.  He was an advocate for veteran’s rights and did volunteer work at AmeriCorps.

Terry had an infectious personality.  He was naturally funny and was the hit of any event he attended. He was also very protective of his family and was very loving and sensitive as well.  He will be truly missed by everyone who was blessed enough to have known him.

He was called home on February 8, 2021. His father George A. Powell, Sr., mother Jacqueline Marie Partridge and nephew Brinston Powell preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn, his loving and beloved daughter Allegra Marie Dunn, son-in-law, Steffon Dunn, grandsons Rome Cameron Dunn and Cairo Austin Dunn, sister Yvette Marie Powell, niece Asha Osman, nephew Josiah Osman, loving ex-wife Valerie Allen Powell, ex mother-in-law, Marie Allen, close friend Rauley Wilson, and a host of friends and family.
