Obituary

George F. Manthie Sr. passed away on June 27th 2008 at his home at the age of 76 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side. He was born June 15th 1932 in Minnesota. He was the 8th child of William and Louise Manthie. He was confirmed on June 27th 1948 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock, Minnesota.
He grew up on the family farm in Ogilvie, Minnesota, leaving to serve in the Korean War. He met his wife Mary and lived in Seattle, where he worked at the San Juan Fish Company until 1966. He then went to work at Northwest Glass Company, now known as Ball Incon, until he retired after 27 years of employment.
He was a very devoted husband to Mary. They were married on September 5th 1959. They were married for 48 years.
He was a supportive and dedicated father to Donna Patrick of Independence, Oregon, George Jr. Julie of Auburn, Washington, Janet Ken of Seattle, Washington, Tony Vickie of Kent, Washington and Sheri of Seattle, Washington.
As well as a compassionate and fun loving grandfather to Jason Monica, Amanda Mark, Danielle and Patrick Jr. of Independence, Oregon, Kristina Justin of San Diego, California, Kurtis of Auburn, Washington, and Kyle of Ninilchik, Alaska, Amber Greg of Kent, Washington, Kenny and Cassandra of Seattle, Washington, Ashley Shane, Brittany Daniel, and Tyler of Kent, Washington and Marissa, Brianna and Isaiah of Seattle, Washington.
He was also very blessed to have 7 great grandchildren, Daniel, Blanca, Mia, Zachary and Alex of Independence, Oregon, Andrew of Kent, Washington and Chloe due to arrive in October.
His brothers and sisters all residing in Minnesota, Margaret, Luella, Lucille, Eddie, Albert, Betty, Gordon, Eugene, survive him, along with numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, William and Louise, 2 brothers, Hank and William and 1 sister, Frances, precede him in death.
George found the greatest joy in watching his grandchildren play their sports, collecting cans, going to the casino and watching the Mariners and the Seahawks.
A memorial service will be held on July 12th at 1pm.

Everyone is going to greatly miss George. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. I am so glad my daughter married into such a wonderful close and careing family. Andrew and Chloe will hear wonderful stories of their “PaPa”.
