Obituary

George ‘Bob’ Robert THORSON, Jr.
Born August 19, 1934 in New York City, died March 26, 2008 in Seattle, WA. Bob met his Maker suddenly, and they both were not only surprised but delighted. Bob had a scrappy and wonderful childhood in New York City; Jamaica, Long Island; Clementon, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; and Phoenix, AZ. He inherited his dry sense of humor from his parents, George and Anne, but no doubt honed it when he once caddied for Bob Hope and Artie Shaw.

Bob graduated from Chandler High School and earned an AA in Art from Phoenix College. He served in the US Air Force in Tucson, AZ, where he met Gail Sweet. He liked to say that when they married they ‘didn’t have a pot to ‘go’ in or a window to throw it out of,’ but they eventually acquired both of those and five children in their 52 years together. After 4 years in the Air Force, Bob left the service, worked for Air Research, then fled the Arizona heat in 1966 to become a long-time Boeing employee in Seattle.

Bob is survived by his wife, Gail; his sister, Pat Ross Hallberg; his five children, Deborah Brad Fletcher, Kim Bill Carlson, Jill Hank Byington, Mark Thorson, and Scott Bev Thorson; his five grandchildren, Nick, Ben, Justin, Daniel, and Jasen; his five step-grandchildren, Kara, Ashley, Jared, Devon, and Lyndsay; and his one great-grandchild, Malcom.

We will all miss Bob/Dad terribly, especially his no-nonsense perspective. He was always there for us.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Burien Evangelical Church, 500 SW 146th Street. Interment was held at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

Maybe someday missing you will be a little easier, but we will never forget you – you’re a legend after all! Say “hi” to Granma and Gramps for us.

I will miss my one and only brother. He protected me from bullies in the City school and when we moved to the country, he taught me to fish, swim and hit a baseball.

He will live in my life through his five children and beautiful wife, Gail.

Love always

Sister Pat
