George T. Funai

Obituary
Born on Mar. 3, 1915 in Leland, WA, passed away on Feb. 16, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Fusaye Funai, children; Gwen Jefferson and Keith Funai Brinn, granddaughters Kiyomi, Naomi, Emiko, & Midori, great-grandson, Elijah, and five siblings, Lilly Uyeda, Alice Waterer, Toshio Funai, May Otani, and Frank Funai.
George attended Bothell High School and was a star athlete in football and baseball. He was captain of the football team and played on a championship Nisei Vets baseball team. His speed earned him the nickname ‘The Bothell Flash’.
George was a member of the 442nd Batallion and was a POW in WWII, captured by the Germans in the Maritime Alps in France.He worked at RS Auto Rebuild and then opened his own barbershop in Bellevue, WA. He later moved the shop to his home in Beacon Hill and continued barbering until he retired at 92.
George enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, and of course dining out with friends and family. Please join us in remembrance of him this Saturday, February 28, 2009. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm at Blaine Memorial Methodist Church 3001 24th Ave. So, Seattle, WA 98144 206 723-1536
