Giovanna Buono

June 25, 1930 - July 3, 2014

Obituary

Giovanna was born in Taurasi, province of Avellino, Italy to Concetta and Carmine Martiniello on June

25, 1930. Passed away peacefully with family supporting her on July 3, 2014 in Highline, Washington of metastatic breast cancer. Giovanna immigrated from Italy to join her brother Alfred and parents in Seattle in the mid 1950’s. She met and married Nico in 1958 and enjoyed 50 years together until Nico passed in 2008. They lived on Capitol Hill together and started a home and family with daughter Grace and son Domenico. The family moved to Burien in 1965 and Mom became known for her “farm” in the back yard, producing corn, peas, figs, hazelnuts, tomatoes(which she did not eat) and of course fava beans. Giovanna had a large heart and was happiest when she was able to share the products of the garden and the magic that came out of her kitchen, including homemade bread, ravioli, pizza, lasagna, “panzerotte” and of course the bounty of Italian Christmas goodies.

She enjoyed going to Mexico and other places with the family and liked to wade into the surf, shop for treasures to give away and raise a strawberry margarita to toast her friends. Her laughter brought joy to us all.

She is survived by her children and their spouses,Grace and Joel, and Domenic and Molly. Sisters Antoinetta and Lina remained in Itay. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Alfredo, Ernesto and Dionesio.

Remembrances to the charity of your choice.
