Gladys May Thaut

Obituary
Born September 26, 1914, to Lath and Lulu May Williams of Eddyville, Nebraska. After the death of her father, Gladys’ family left Nebraska for Livingston, Montana, where she attended school and later met her husband-to-be, James Perrine. Together they raised two children: Dorothy M. Dunn and James W. Perrine, Jr.
In 1943, they moved to Seattle to be near family. During the war, Gladys worked for a time at Boeing as a riveter, but later moved on to work for several small restaurants; Spence’s Pharmacy and eventually retired from Olson Drugs.
In 1967, she lost her husband of 35 years of heart failure. Two years later, she met and married Russel Thaut. They lived in their home on 13th in the White Center area until Russ retired. They then moved to North Bend, Washington, where they lived until Russ passed away from cancer in 1990.
Gladys returned to West Seattle where she lived in her little condo until it became too difficult for her to live alone. She then moved to Ruthaven Senior Care Home in Covington, Washington, where she found a loving staff that cared for her every need.
Gladys loved to be with family, she also loved to dance, play games, and she was a prolific crocheter of afghans. Her home-baked pies were the stuff of legends. She also loved to travel and was able to do so often. Gladys lived a full life and enjoyed excellent health up until the last few months. She was loved by all and truly lived for her family. She passed away, peacefully, in her 97th year, on March 16, 2012.
Surviving Gladys are her two children: James W Perrine, Jr. (Norma Jean) and Dorothy M. Dunn (James); six grandchildren: David Dunn, Michael Perrine, Michele Holm. Dianne Dunn, Kenneth Perrine and James W. Dunn; seven great-grandchildren: Joshua Dunn, Katie Lewis, Jeffrey Lewis, Justin Dunn, Jessica Perrine, Jerad Perrine and Chrissandra Dunn; four great-great-grandchildren: Jedrek Dunn, Aviana Meleada, Cadon Snyder and Taylor Marie; two sisters: Pearl Castle and Latha Rinehardt; and many loving nieces and nephews, too numerous to list.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ruthaven Senior Care Home would be gratefully appreciated

I will mis my Beloved Aunt Gladys, her sweet smile and chuckles. We know she is at peace in the arms of Jesus now. God Bless her and her family.
I will cherish the wonderful memories of the times shared with Grandma (GeeGee). I have several afghans that she crocheted that I will treasure and think of her every time I cuddle up in one.
There will be a huge void in a lot of peoples lives without Aunt Gladys. Even though I didn’t know her well, I loved to listen to my Mother (Marlene) talk about her. Aunt Gladys will be greatly missed by all. My heart felt thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Gladys lived with us at Ruthaven for a few short years, but I enjoyed everyday she was here! She was truly my favorite resident, and I have a lot a fun memories with her. I am so blessed to have had her in my life. She will be greatly missed….
Gladys was a lovely neighbor at the condo; we shared some dinners at the senior center and I enjoyed her butterscotch pie. Please extend my sympathy to Gladys’ family.
I’ve known Grandma Gladys all my life, in fact, I believe she was the one who busted Jimmy and I as we were smearing bright red lipstick all over our bodies at four years old. I can remember her calling for our mothers while chuckling under her breath. She had a great smile!
Love to all the Dunns!
