Obituary
Gladys Regina Gould was born on May 2, 1920 to Borghild Margaret Landstad and Talmer Sorestad in Buchanan, Saskatchewan, Canada. As a small child she moved with her family to L’Anse Michigan where she graduated from L’Anse High School in 1938. In April of 1944, she married Carlos F. Gould of Danbury Wisconsin in a service officiated by her pastor and legal guardian, Ole Helland in Mason, Wisconsin. The newlyweds got off to a rough start as Carlos developed Polio within their first year of marriage. The doctors suggested the couple ‘move south’ to a warmer climate as the polio had impacted Carl’s upper respiratory strength. They ended up in Phoenix, Arizona helping another couple run a turkey farm. Carl developed valley fever and once again the doctors then told them to ‘move north’, which is when they packed up and moved to Washington. While in Arizona, they gave birth to their first son, Lowell. After moving to Washington, they had their second son, Glen. While on a family picnic on a lake near their home in Spokane, the couple lost their oldest son Lowell in a drowning accident. With the Boeing Company picking up steam in Seattle, Carlos decided to move the family from Spokane to Seattle after he was able to obtain a new job with the company in 1961. Even though Gladys was pregnant with their third son, Tim at the time they packed up a moving truck and moved the family across the two lane bumpy road from Spokane through Snoqualmie pass to Seattle. Carlos passed away in April of 1966, joining his son Lowell who both went to be with the Lord. Now a widow, Gladys did the best she could to support her two living sons, Glen and Tim by working first at The Kenworth Company and then at The Boeing Company for over 15 years. After her retirement in 1983, she worked several part-time jobs with Kelly Services to try and make ends meet and support Tim while he finished up college. Gladys was preceded in death by her son Lowell and husband Carlos and by her sister’s Lorraine Sorestad Peterson and Bernice Sorestad Saethre and brother Adolph Sorestad. She is survived by her brother Ken Sorestad and sons Glen and his wife Connie and Tim and his wife Julie. She also has five grandsons and one grand-daughter and 13 nieces and nephews spread throughout the U.S.
