Glendean Louise Bottom

Born Glendean Louise Hill July 26, 1927, in Muskogee, OK to John M. Hill and Mattie Dowker Hill. Her brothers and sisters are, Annie Hill Walker, deceased, Charles Hill, deceased, Lillie Hill Gray, living in Florida, John Tippy Hill, living in Ohio. She is survived by husband of 61 years, Ernest E. Bottom; 2 sons Grayson and Gregory; 6 grandchildren Connie, Corrienne, Grayson, Carole, Gregory, Elizabeth; 1 great grand child Robert MacLean.

She was married on April 7th 1945 in Muskogee, OK. She bore two sons John Grayson on Nov 9, 1946 and Bert Gregory on Aug 25, 1948. They go by Grayson and Greg. She started her family married life in Muskogee, OK but soon moved to Tulsa, OK. She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, call center supervisor for Sears catalog, and getter into many projects with her friends Marion Menu, Oddie Turner, and Lavern Shelly. They kept in contact as long as possible.

Glendean “Dean” moved to Ogden, Utah in 1961. She was a driving force in starting a mission Baptist church in North Ogden, Utah named ”Valley View Baptist Church”, which is still there today, with her ever after friends Ed and Betty McQueen. She was a Youth Director and Sunday School Teacher. Dean participated or ran Vacation Bible Schools. Dean ministered at the Rocky Mountain Indian Training Center in Brigham City and at the Ogden Industrial School for girls. She had many fellowships at her house. She was a football and other sports Mom. She showed her boys how to stand up to bullies. She stayed up very late typing school papers for her sons who waited until the last minute to give the roughs to her. She spent late hours teaching that your worth is still there even if you didn’t wear Levies or Gant shirts. She flowed through her sons’ embarrassment of picking up rocks along side of the road for a waterfall and rock wall she wanted to build. I suspect she had a network of snitches because she always seemed to know what we were up to.

She called us missile migrants because we moved when one missile contract ran out, thus the jobs, and we went to another place for her husband to work in aerospace. She moved to Slidell Louisiana in 1964. She was very involved in the 1st Baptist Church of Slidell. She would go out and try to minister to the Bayou folks. She built a cage for and put up with her son’s pet monkey. She made many friends. She met Lou Mathews there and has had many phone conversations with her up to the end.

She moved to Des Moines, WA in 1969. It was hard times because Ernie was laid off by Boeing after the SST failure. She worked for a real estate agent as a call center supervisor and then for Value Village as the same. She was promoted to Assistant store manager and troubleshooter. She went to stores in Washington and got them squared away. She became the youth director at Victory Baptist Church. She helped people learn English in a Korean church that met at Evergreen Bible Chapel. She was a member of Des Moines Gospel Chapel in Des Moines. She did and has always taken in people to love on in the name of Jesus. Dean helped many students as a tutor for several years. Dean had many hobbies; she enjoyed fishing, artwork like painting and crafts, woodworking, Junk store shopping, yard work and landscaping, the computer and emailing, and doing creative things like posters and newsletters for those who didn’t have email.

A great Christian lady who heard upon entering heavens gates ”Well done thou good and faithful servant. I have prepared a mansion for you in my fathers house.” If wealth is measured in loving friends, she was one of the wealthiest. If success is raising a Christian family, she was very successful. Glendean was a friend, consoler, confidant, and mentor to many, and she is sorely missed and will be for a long time to come.
