Gloria Lomax, 92, died July 9, 2022 in her home at Judson Park, Des Moines, Washington. Born March 23, 1930 in Yakima, Washington, to Sadie and Aubrey Shelton, Gloria was the youngest sibling to her brother Art. Gloria graduated in 1952 from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics.
On March 15, 1953, Gloria married Ted Lomax. They built a home in Normandy Park, Washington, where they lived together for 55 years. Following Ted’s death in 2011, Gloria moved to independent living at Judson Park Senior Living.
Gloria’s life was permeated by a deep love of God and others. She poured her energy into nurturing her husband and their five children, serving in her church community, and teaching literacy to adults. For 30 years, she helped refugees and immigrants learn to speak English and resettle in the Seattle area.
Gloria is survived by 5 children Becky Lomax, Fred Lomax, Tom Lomax, Marcy Yoshida, and Christine Huestis; 6 grandchildren Katie Duncan, Aric Duncan, Erin Yoshida, Kevin Duncan, Davis Yoshida, and Sarah Duncan; and 10 nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 2-5 p.m., Friday, July 22 at Bonney Watson, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA 98188. A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 109 SW Normandy Road, Seattle, WA 98166.
