Obituary

Gloria Ann Wright born March 21, 1938 in White Plains, New York to Anna Fisher and Thomas Coram. Gloria moved from New York to Alabama at an early age. Later, the family relocated to Seattle, Washington in the early 1950’s. There she attended and graduated from Garfield High School, then went on to Edison School of Nursing (on the current site of Seattle Central Community College). She was united in marriage with Titus Wright in 1966. Although she was baptized as a young child, she rededicated herself to Christ at Goodwill Baptist Church in the 1980’s. She attended church and enjoyed studying the word of God and sharing her faith with others.

Gloria began her employment with Boeing in 1972. There she was an active member of both the IAM-751 and AFL-CIO Unions. After her retirement in 1995, she was active with Boeing Retirees on the Line Organization; serving as Secretary. Her volunteer activities were many, including service to the Central Area Chamber of Commerce. Her political activities included being nominated to serve as the delegate for her district during the 2008 Presidential campaign as an Obama supporter.

As a person who was described as, “never meeting a stranger” she could engage in conversation with people from all walks of life, making friends with ease. Her problem solving nature served her well, enabling her to aid people to identify ways to improve and make the better choices for their lives.  At times, it could be as simple, as being that voice on the other end of the phone, providing hope and encouragement. She spoke kind and truthful words from her heart, with a “Baby” or two mixed in for good measure.

She took on many roles, those of daughter, mom, sister, friend, godmother, aunt, caregiver, and much more. She was vocal, an advocate, and her compassion and commitment was unwavering.

When she became a mother, Gloria embraced parenting with open arms. She was a doting mother, a devoted and loving parent to Anna. The unique bond that mother and child shared was very close. That joy was multiplied when Anna gave birth to her two daughters, Shaylaun and Tiffany. Gloria was a proud grandmother, who kept busy and active caring for her grandchildren. She shared her motherly wisdom with Anna, helping to guide and nurture the girls in love. Mom and grandma were special titles she cherished.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna Payton; granddaughters, Shaylaun Ford and Tiffany Grimes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Preceding in death are her sisters, Geraldine (Jerri) Harris (Sylvester); Alice Brown-Bufford (William); Gimma Graves (Robert) and brothers, Donald Brown (Johnnie); Wallace Brown (Jane); Danny Fisher (Cathy).
