Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Lunde, aged 89, on March 16, 2025. Born on February 18, 1936, to Italian immigrant parents, Gloria grew up in Spokane, Washington, where she developed a deep pride in her Italian heritage. She graduated from Gonzaga University in 1958 and went on to teach fourth grade at Cooper Elementary School in Spokane before dedicating herself to raising her family. Gloria lived a life full of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and faith.
A spirited and unapologetically honest woman, Gloria was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always standing firm in her beliefs. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every challenge and offering strength and wisdom to those around her. Gloria had a deep love for sports, but her true passion was University of Washington Husky football. Her enthusiasm for the team was legendary—she could often be found passionately cheering them on in her purple and gold.
After years as a stay-at-home mom, Gloria attended the University of Washington to update her Teacher’s Certificate. Unable to secure a teaching position, Gloria redefined herself in 1979, beginning her career at Bank of America as a teller. Her dedication and work ethic earned her the respect of her colleagues, becoming a trusted figure at the bank throughout her long career. Fittingly, she retired on the same day as the 6.8 Nisqually earthquake that struck Seattle in February 2001—a truly memorable way to end her career!
Gloria’s home was always the heart of family celebrations, especially during the holidays. She loved nothing more than hosting her large family, pouring her energy into prepping and cooking to ensure everyone felt welcome and loved. Her famous ravioli were a family favorite, as were her chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph (Linda) Albo; her sister, Angela Ferrari; her five children, Adele Lunde, Mark (Dee) Lunde, Kevin (Andrea) Lunde, Steve (Jeanne) Lunde, and Craig Lunde; her 12 grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Tyler, Anthony, Dominic, Janelle, Shawn, Nicholas, Kristen, Allen, Ethan, and Mia; and her two great-grandchildren. She is also mourned by her many friends, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Holmes Sweet Homes adult family home, and especially her caregiver Ruby, for the love and excellent care Gloria received while living there.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on March 31, 2025, at St Vincent de Paul Parish in Federal Way, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Sacred Heart Southern Missions, which provides much needed food, shelter and education for a better life to one of the poorest regions in our country.
Gloria’s legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the deep sense of family she instilled in her children. She will forever be remembered with love, laughter, and deep affection
