Obituary
Gloria Rowe (Evans), 84, of Burien, WA left this world peacefully on September 3rd, 2016 with her son and daughter by her side. Gloria grew up in Georgetown and moved to South Park at age 10. She attended Cleveland High School and graduated in 1950. She met George Rowe who lived across the street and married him in 1953. In the early years, prior to having two children, she worked for General Electric. After Kim and George were born she became a stay at home mom. She was always very involved in what the kids were doing and volunteered for the PTA, Girl Scouts, 4-H Club, Cub Scouts and helped with her son’s bowling league. She kept very busy caring for her family, beloved dog, doing arts and crafts, knitting, canning, and socializing with friends. In 1981 she became a widow losing George to cancer. She reinvented herself and got back into the workforce. She worked at The Vance Airport Inn as a front desk clerk and also did catering for Joan’s Kitchen. In her later years she had great affection for her two grandchildren, Miranda and Jackson. Gloria had a funny sense of humor and had a fondness for sharing stories, she was quick to laugh and fun to be around. She was one of a kind, true blue, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her!
A special thank you to Providence Hospice for their care and support and to Family Resource Home Care, we will be forever grateful. Gloria’s memorial service is on September 16th, 2016 at 11am. It will be held in the chapel at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Cemetery in Seatac. There will be a celebration of her life to follow at Foster Golf Course. Gloria gave to many charities, two of her favorites were Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, she loved to buy holiday meals for the homeless and to our Military Veterans. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
I went to Concord School &
Cleveland High School with
Gloria. We were in the same grade & have kept in touch all through these 60Plus years since we graduated. I to lived in South Park about a 1/2 mile from Gloria. Walking home from the bus we walked together with a couple of others as we passed Gloria’s home on our way home. Up until she fell ill again she & I would talk on the phone at least once a week.
I will miss her calls. She and I always had something to talk about. Again she & I have been friends since grade school & I will miss her. I hope she is still able to watch her “Mariners”.
