Grant Alwood Kaste

August 27, 1919 - April 18, 2007

Obituary

Grant Alwood Kaste, 87, went home to be with the Lord, April 18. He trusted in Jesus’ words, “. . . I am the way the truth and the life . . .” John 14:6

At age seven, tragedy struck his family: he and his brothers were orphaned and separated. Later in 1938 while hauling grain bundles in Oslo, MN, a farmer took notice of Grant. The Tinnes family saw that Grant needed a family and graciously invited him to stay with them. Their son Gilman adopted Grant as his brother.

Grant was a Marine during WWII. The brothers served in different branches of the military and all came back.

He fought valiantly over the last 15 years to survive multiple heart attacks and strokes. In 1992, he overcame a heart attack and stroke that left him in a coma for 8 days. He learned to walk and talk again.

Grant is survived by his daughter, Janice Kaste Sonnheim, son-in-law Eric; granddaughter and sparkle of his eye, Eliana; brothers, Wendell and Morris and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Marie and brother Victor.

Celebrations of Remembrance at Orchard Park Rehab Ctr, 4755 S. 48th, Tacoma, WA at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 04/25/07 and Life Manor Assisted Living, Life Center Campus, 1609 S. Union Avenue, Tacoma, WA at 3:00 pm on Wednesday. Interment, Washington Memorial Park. Funeral home, Bonney-Watson Federal Way, 1535 SW Dash Point Rd., Federal Way, WA. 253 839-7317.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to the family. My Dad, Milen Brudwick & Alwood were very good friends in their younger years when Alwood was in Bottineau County, North Dakota.
