Services: Vigil 7:30 p.m, Sunday, December 9, 2007; Memorial Mass 10:00 AM, Monday, December 10. Both will be held at St. Joseph Church 718 18th Ave. E. in Seattle. Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Francis House in Seattle, or the St. Joseph’s Baby Corner.
My heart goes out to all of you. The shared memories of our Capitol Hill years and youth are richer by the inclusion of the Carney Family. Your Mom was incredible.
Peace,
Gretchen Carney was a saint on earth. How many acts of kindness to strangers, neighbors and dear friends? Snotty nosed kids me in her kitchen waiting to see Dr. John, raising 13 great kids, volunteering how did she have time?!, driving kids to soccer, track, you-name-it, and attending daily Mass at St. Joe’s. Always a kind word for the son of old friends me again. I’m so sorry I am out of the country, but know my brothers and sisters will pray with our friends the Carney’s, as we celebrate a remarkable life.
Pete and I will miss your Mom. In 1977, your Mom and Dad welcomed us into their home for our wedding rehearsal dinner.
I will always remember your Mom in the garden when we came home from St. Joe’s. She always had a wonderful friendly smile and said hello. Years later, she confessed that she was making sure that all of us got home safely!
I remember that huge kitchen table that was the gathering spot when we visited. We always felt welcomed with warmth, kindness, and love.
Love, Pete and Julie Z Lackie
so sorry to hear about your mom’s death. she lived a long and powerful life, was very tenacious and devoted to her children. although I wasn’t at your home all that often, I have very fond memories of your mother’s chocolate cookies!
Mom,
Thanks for the book. It was well used so I thought I would leave that copy with you and use a newer copy for future reading. The paper I left was the best thing I ever wrote so I thought I would send a copy of that with you too.
Rest in Peace
Say hi to Dad.
