Obituary
H. Ken Bailey, born January 18, 1922, died January 9th, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Ken was born and raised in Belmond, Iowa. Throughout his life he felt connected to the town of Belmond and of the many cousins and friends who lived there. Ken was in combat in WWII in Europe. After the war he went to work for the Boeing Company and rose to be a General Manager. Always interested in new assignments, he was Base Manager and Production Engineering Manager at various sites and also was Deputy General Manager for Boeing in Iran and General Manager for Boeing in the Dominican Republic. Ken retired from Boeing at age 56 after 35 years and found he did not care for retirement. So, he began a new and successful career as Consultant to the Air Force. After 10 years he retired again and again found he did not like retirement. So, in his seventies, he became a part time Contract Administrator for Koster Landscape Maintenance Co. and was still working at age 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ellen; 3 daughters, Karen, Nancy and Sandy; 5 grandchildren, Wayne, Aaron, Wendy, Christine and Rachel; 4 great grandchildren; brothers Keith and Floyd and nieces and nephews. However busy and however far away in his challenging jobs, he always had time for his family. At his request, no services will be held. In his memory, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family has entrusted arrangements to BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial, 16445 international Blvd., SeaTac, WA 206 242-1787.
Ken,
You are a great guy and a wonderful grandfather. I have enormous respect for you. The kids are so fortunate to have had such a loving grandfather. Thank you so much for your contributions to their lives. Eternally, Dennis
Even though I had only recently met Ken, I have fond memories of a firm handshake and a friendly greeting. I had the pleasure of visiting him on several occasions where we shared a poached egg breakfast together. I could tell he enjoyed that very much, and we shared some lively conversation about football. I will never forget how warmly he welcomed me every time I saw him. He will be remembered well.

Ken was an inspiration to me as we worked together at the Oklahoma City Air Logistic Center. He as the Boss and I as a Contractor Representative attempting to save the Air Force Costs in maintaining our products. It was as though I have known him my entire working career.

What can be said about losing a father? Only that he gave more than he took, he loved more than he hated, he tried to do the best for everyone. He had a smile for us all. We will miss him deeply.
My Dad, a strong proud fighter and do-er all of his life. A lover of people, working hard, puttering and fixing things, golf, and of course his family. He had neverending praise and words of encouragement for me, his youngest daughter. I will miss him very much. With love and admiration, Sandy
I’m sure Ken and ‘Aunt’ Doris and ‘Cousins’ Dee and Rosemary are all whooping it up together in heaven now! “No one is totally lost to us if we remember them.”
My best to the whole Bailey clan.
