Harold was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew to his extended family~ Patterson, Vangen, Johnson, and Lunos. Thank you Bruce for your support and friendship. Harold loved you like a brother.
Harold was born in Seattle in 1948. He was drafted by the Army at 20 and spent time, among others, at Fort Lewis, VA, and Vietnam. Harold proudly and honorably served in the US Army as a Door Gunner during his time in the Vietnam War. He was incredibly courageous, brave, and very proud to be a Vietnam Veteran.
One of his favorite places to travel to was Hawaii. He loved Kona but his favorite Hawaiian Island was Maui. Harold’s last trip took him to Oahu to see his cousin, Wendy Stephens. They went to Pearl Harbor ~ which really moved Harold. Emotional with tears in his eyes he stood over the Arizona memorial like many veterans before him. He loved Hawaii and was trying to plan another trip just before passing.
The trip also took them to North Shore to the Dole Plantation where they enjoy Dole whip ice cream, got henna tattoos, and bracelets engraved with their Hawaiian name and meaning. HAROLD, and the shortened form HAL, is from the ancient Angelo-Saxon and the names have a long associated with warriors, the meaning would be mighty in battle. The ancient Hawaiian word KOAPAKA means valiant and brave, especially in war. This was so true and fitting to Harold, and he wore the bracelet valiantly.
Harold always loved to have a good time and always was happy to see you. Although sometimes quiet, he loved good conversation and stories to share, a good laugh, a good joke (or an inside joke), he loved to watch football and baseball and playing the “boards” but his all time favorite hobby, by far, was music and concerts. He could tell you something about every concert he went to. His love for music took him to so many concerts over several decades, way too many to list. He also loved cars, driving, and going on road trips.
Our beloved Harold had a heart of gold, he was always thoughtful and giving to the people he loved and often to people he didn’t know, showing random acts of kindness was something Harold was known for. He also consistently donated to St. Jude.
When Harold noticed someone was in need, he extended his kindness always. He loved his family and friends so much and made sure to stay in touch. But the one he missed and loved the most was by far his dear mother, Alice Johnson, who passed just three years prior. Their bond and love for each other was like no other.
Always with pride he treated people the way we all should strive for. Opening a door, holding a chair for a lady, standing when a lady got up from a table, bringing flowers, we could go on and on. Harold was always a true gentleman and he enjoyed treating women special-the way he believed they should be treated.
Harold expressed much love to make the best of everyday, appreciated the ones he loved, and spread love and kindness to all. Nothing short of how each of us could make efforts to be like.
You’ll be missed Harold but you are forever in our hearts. All the battles are over now and you are once again surrounded by love ones. Rest In Peace Harold. We love you.
A Graveside Service for Harold will be held on Friday, November 24th at 12:30pm at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. After the Burial at Tahoma, there will be a Celebration of Life at 2:30pm at Angelo’s, 601 SW 153rd St., Burien, Washington 98166, (206) 244-3555.
We will forever be Thankful for the laughs and our times together. The Superbowl we spent together here at the house, the candy you always handed out for the girls.
You will be missed but always remembered.
Harold … I’m so glad we had such a nice visit in June and got things straightened out.
You were a wonderful big brother.

Lots of good memories Harold! Remember the time you ditched Chuck and I at the Gorge? Funny Stuff. Remember the time you came back from Idaho and my friend Jill and I took you to see the beautiful girls and it turned out to be a “Female Impersonators” show. You were like “Really Cuz?” Good times.
